Doesn't FT make more if they get us to enter 4 seperate tourneys than they do if we enter 1 of these?

Based ob $1 game

1 matrix rake = 25c
4 regular SnG = 4 x 25c ($1.00)

I played one of these before but do not like them even though I came in 1st in two of the individual matches and 1st in the points. I'm used to playing 1 or 2 tables at time and four is just to much for me. I also do not like the payout structure.

Matrix

I took a look at this type of tournaments and the prise money has been cut down so what is the point. Yes, I guess you might get a better read on some players since you are playing 4 games with the same people. But it looked silly to me.:)

however, it does make for less variance compared to buyin, so $50 deposits prob could start at $5 + .50.

^^^ this.

When you play a matrix tournament, the buy-in is spread over 4 SNGs, the relevant buy-in for BR management is only a 4th of the buy-in. So technically, if you adhere to a 40 buy-ins rule for regular SNGs, you could go for a 10 buy-in rule for Matrix SNGs.

I've played a few to test the waters. I don't like them. I play pretty tight, so I don't knock a lot of people out. Since 1/5 of the prize pool is given to whoever has the most points, and you get 2x the points for knocking someone out as opposed to outlasting them the game doesn't suit me.

I liked the format for two reasons ... to improve skills in handling distractions and to play 4 for the price of 1 entry. I picked up some change having placed high or won 3 out of 4 tables.

I've only played play chip tourneys, but I kinda liked it. You get a good read on each of your 8 opponents and certainly see a lot of opportunities to make something happen. What I don't like is when a player realizes that he or she has practically lost all chance of achieving a return, tank their game or sit out. . .this of course drains on the competition.

Is this as prevelant in the cash games?

I think its a good thing.

Really not sure, hell of a lot of trash talking in these. And look at this - 1st, 2nd, 2nd and 7th, and I come 2nd in the matrix? I didn't get any knockouts in the last game - sorry but Omaha Hi lo isn't about knockouts, it's about accumulating chips.

I think they need to work on the format.

On the plus side, good entertainment for the money.

I have played in 3 of these (play money) and woke up on the + side in all 3. I think what they are trying to do is spread out the money even more so if you are a very solid player (and CAN multi-task) you should come out on the plus side regardless.

Robwhufc, I hope you dont mind me using your $22+2 Screen shot, but I calculated the money and edited the screen shot in the "Projected" column to show.

If you notice, only 2 ppl walked away with $0.00. 4 ppl walked away with a little less than their buyin, so it wasn't as big of a loss if they were to have played and gotten a brutal suckout when JJ would get cracked by a donk who keeps going "all in" with 10 4 offsuit. If this were to happen in a regular game, you would be out. (not really fair for the "solid" player). But with "The Matrix", you still have a shot to walk away with profit and can easily prevent tilting when something like this happens. Also, watching 4 tables, you can spot the 1 guy who does keep going "all in", and with any luck, they are sitting on your right. (at least at one of the tables). I agree with Robwhufc in saying "isn't about knockouts, it's about accumulating chips." but, this IS the structure in "The Matrix", and it isnt the only Tourney. (Notice the "Knockout Bounty" Tourneys). You WILL get rewarded for solid play at possibly 4 tables. Playing "The Matrix" and knocking out or outlasting opponents, you will score higer with your Matrix score and be rewarded even more. Robwhufc stated he didnt knock out as many ppl. Well, because of this he took 2nd, but if you notice... He actually took 1st in Cash taking home more than the 1st place guy. Overall, the top 3 did take home more than the buyin, (as with all/most 9 ppl tourneys) but there were 4 who didnt lose as much and I suppose you can call it a "buffer" for those "Bad Beats" or "Bad Calls".

Over-all, I think its a great learning tool IF you can handle watching 4 tables. Granted when I played, it was quite quick when you are trying to balance 3 tables with only 3 players at each. Congratulations on your win Robwhufc. (You took 1st in the tourney IMO)
