I got called a really bad thing in Paradise one day and my husband was watching and insisted I report the guy. Paradise's response was that I if I was going to play poker that I should expect that sort of thing to happen and be tough enough to take it.

So won't bother reporting in the future lol.

I`m not impressed by their attitude, Daks. Sure it goes on, but most sites will at least warn a player if he is abusive. Seems like they are condoning it.

OK, trying not to hi-jack this thread, but I'm curious. To go along with my article on "Verbal Abuse In Online Poker", I'd like to know some opinions on the severity of some non-cuss words. On a scale of 1-5 (1=harmless, 5=person should get the boot), what do you think of the following words:

Moron

Gay

Idiot

Donkey

Dumbass

ATM

Fag

Bitch

Moron - 0

Gay - 0

Idiot - 0

Donkey - 0

Dumbass - 0

ATM - 0

Fag - 0

Bitch - 0

it's all or nothing people. you cant get mad at someone for calling you a fag and then turn around and call someone else a different derogatory name. everything is relative, therefore you should either call everyone every name equally, or you should be ready to not call anyone any name.

IMO, I dont find any of those words offensive to me as they are typed by some person I don't even know or care about and besides that I know who I am and I'm not one of those words above, but I'll admit to being a donkey at times.

I think people who win then call the losers names are the worst players.

I was on a cash table the other day, trying that limit for first time just seeing whats its like.

Guy raises pre-flop, i call with aq, flop comes a4j. He bets, i call. Although at that point i did put him on ak but i guess i amde mistake and couldnt lay down my hand.

Anyway turn comes another j, i had half my money already in so i raised his bet thinking its my last chance to win it, to represent a j. he thinks then calls and wins.

Granted, wasnt best hand. He then says "no foldem holdem, gotta love it". Had to be a smartass about it. If youre making money off of someone, its stupid to talk shit to them. Only a bad player whos not used to winning would imo.

Maybe pokerstars is really cracking down on verbal abuse poker chat. If that's the case, this is a good thing. This problem was brought about by Mr. Stcker in a thread and a link to this blog about it some time ago. Since then, it has many replies agreeing that it's gone too far. Of course, this is just wishful thinking, but still...

they've been having freerolls on pokerstars with pros with bounties on their heads. you get a ticket to sunday million for knocking them out. (although some of the pros have been sitting out.) the way some of the rail birds talk is crazy. the other day a female pro was in it (sitting out) was really awful. someone emailed support to draw their attention to it and when someone from support showed up a guy made a comment and the guy from support issued a warning that if the guy made another comment like that he'd get a one day chat vacation, well that certainly didnt do much good as they just started in about it only being one day. i think it would be embarrasing to show that much immaturity and being so childish.

I was in one of those $1000 holiday freeroll things they are doing, and it just so happens that Humberto Brenes was at my first table. Whoever busts Humberto gets an entry into a sunday mill, so of course everyone is trying to bust him and he's playing really tight. So Humberto raises UTG, 2 calls, I call on the button with 65s, BB and SB both call. flop comes out Q56 2 spades, humberto bets, 1 fold, 1 call, I push, SB CALLS, bb folds, humberto folds. turns out BB had a 7 high flush draw with the 7-2 of spades and I hold. Well after the hand, I asked Humbero this:

79910945 mj23lbj111 humberto were u calling if that moron didnt call
me? 3 12/22/2006 7:04:08 PM

they said that is my warning and next offense will result in a chat ban.

LOL?
wow. that was light compared to some of the stuff ive seen.

In my "formative" poker days, I would respond to any name calling with a response ten times as bad. Sort of trying to bully the bully. I was never warned, never banned. Just got lucky there, I guess.

Now ... I mostly ignore it. Most of the nasty comments that I have directed toward me are from unsophisticated players who either don't bet their hand properly or can't see beyond the two cards right in front of them.

At one site, I had two players delight in telling me that they were tagging me as a fish at the site. Funny thing -- when I took a couple hundred off one at a ring table the other night, he didn't mention the tag ... :D

I really dont see the point in calling anyone a name because it only shows how poor you yourself are at losing.

What does anyone get out of it ? some kind of massive boost in confidence that you managed to call someone thousands of miles away an idiot??

What a hero.

Ok, so you lost a hand, maybe they even sucked out with a bad hand and played it badly as well - what they gonna do when you call them a moron? grovel at your feet and offer up their first born in recompense - more likely laugh at your rantings and then vanish with your money.

I got really pissed off this morning and called someone a... "Democrat"

I apologized profusely afterwards, but I fear the damage was already done.

That guy probably wasn't even a moron. If it looks like it's going to be a 3-way pot and he's about 35% to hit his flush and knock out Humberto, it's a pretty good call.

All I know is that when I play and I get upset and someone the only person that hears anything is my wife. She doesn't particularly care for it but it doesn't get me banned from playing anywhere. As far as people yelling at me in the chat box, I just laugh at how pissed off someone can get about a game. I don't play limits nearly high enough to warrant any verbal attacks. I'm sorry the guy lost his $5 when I called with a flush draw, lol.

I think it's really kind of childish to use any derogatory names un-provoked (just my opinion). I personally will just ignore the user that insists on saying derogatory things. Bottom line I think is that if you use that tactic then don't be surprised when you get your chat banned.

Pokerstars can go overboard with the chat warnings occasionally... One time I got a moderator called over for calling someone a fish for going all in on a gutshot draw (and hitting it of course), I got some message saying that if I did that again my chat would be revoked...

And that was the last hand I ever played on pokerstars.

I got a 3 month ban for some run of the mill arguement on the idiot tables.5/10 blind play chip tables.
Twas an England vs Australia arguement going on about the ashes/rugby world cup etc and it was all in good humour and then i get an email off the wonderful pokerstars support taking my comments totally out of context.
:/

Im back to whinging criticising and laughing at people now though :D

Absolute worst

From a girl's point of view, the absolute worst thing u can call her is a "c*nt". I'm not sure just where along the line chivalry died, but in the online poker world, it seems to have done a complete 180. I seem to get much more abuse at the tables simply because I'm a female. Other players seem to think that my gender gives them free rein to tell me I'm probably ugly and weigh 400 lb., that I'm a ho, or a 'biatch', the list goes on. I don't see male players catching the same kind of abuse. I will admit that being an attractive female can be an advantage in live play, but online it's anything but. Can anyone help me understand why this is?
