I am so anal retentive in real life that sobriety gets in the way of my game more than 2 or 3 drinks will.

Play "better" when your drunk? or "worse"?

I play a ton of hands, so much so that it feels almost like i am a robot! I do not drink that much, and i never get drunk while playing (well sometimes) for any real amount of money. if its less than 1/2$ cash or a 40$ buy in sng or multi, then it really doesnt matter i play so loose and fast cause im just there to have fun :) anyways!!!

None of top pros drink heavily or get drunk while they are playing...now afterwards thats a different story...lol

My Advice...dont drink while your playing! Because you will do things that you wouldnt do if you were sober, also if you lose a big hand you are more likely to tilt off your money after getting bad beated, or being mad at yourself for playing bad, or lose some and try and get it back. Then you find yourslef with your whole roll at a table that you dont belong; then the roll you worked on for 3 weeks is gone!

Not none, most. Check out Scotty Nguyen's abysmal behavior in last year's wsop H.O.R.S.E. tournament. Unfortunately, the jackass won. Not an argument FOR drinking while playing.

so because Scotty was drunk at the WSOP, that means that most of the pro's are drunk while they play? I think you logic is flawed at best. Nice job stereotyping professional poker players.

Sure some of them drink while playing. when I play live games i drink too. sometimes i even get philthy drunk, too bad you are not at my games.

Exactly what part of "not all, most" was unclear? If I did any "stereotyping" it was that most DO NOT drink when they play. Scotty Nguyen was used as the EXCEPTION.

It all depends on the number of glasses you're drinking, but i think that if you only have a drink to relax it won't affect your play in any way.

I play only online poker and alcohol don't affect me because I don't drink, but when my wife arrive in the room, I alweys lose faster. Here in brazil we speak: luck in the game, unlucky in love. My alcohol is my wife.

I used to drink when I first started to play tournaments, just to relax my friggin nerves! It used to help me back then because I always played too tight and a few drinks loosened me up just right. Once I learned to be confident in my game, it just screwed up my thought process and it would ruin my night. Nowadays I`ll get a Miller Light right off the bat just to get the nerves calmed down. I`ll only touch the heavy stuff (martini`s and bourbon) when I`m playing low limit poker, when I can socialize and laugh it up with the old timers.

LOL I've never played drunk but I image that I would play a lot more aggressively if I was. So maybe that's better for me idk.

I'll have to try sometime...

Online poker and drinking never goes well for me cause I can just go into the next room and sleep, meaning I drink to excess and lose. The free drinks at the casinos are nice, but can't get too many of them because you need to drive home. If I am not drinking to the point of impairment of my driving skills, then I can enjoy myself a bit at the poker table and not be impaired in my poker play either.

If I am staying at a hotel that is near or on top of the casino ... well... I haven't tried that yet and probably shouldn't if I want to leave with anything in my bank account.

I have found that a couple of drinks at the beginning of a tournament/ s&g relaxes me. I am usually tense at the beginning of a big game, and as long as I dont continue drinking, very little happens of consequence.

I keep suffering bad beats in big hands at pokerstars (er...Pokerfarce) when playing good sensible cards, so now I'm seriously thinking about getting p*ssed before I sit down at those questionable tables next time. Perhaps I can bring myself to play those terrible hands that too often beat me with ridiculous suck outs.
