Full Tilt canceled tournaments yesterday

Hi
I was playing 3$ buy in tournament yesterday.
we started about 800 people
i was 2 out of 70 people left.
and at 20 PM ET suddenly the program disconnected .
it was so bummer .
today i got a mail from full tilt :

Dear rcman1980,

We regret to inform you that tournament # 127998678 ($3 + $0.30 Tournament) has been cancelled.

Buy-in + Tournament Fee: $3.00 + $0.30
Remaining Prize Pool: $2088.00
Your Chip Count: 34931
Total Chips in Play: 1171500

When a tournament is cancelled before it reaches the money, according to tournament rule 31.2 (http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/tourRules.php):
* All players still in the tournament at the time of the cancellation will
be refunded their tournament buy-in and tournament fee. Players will have
their buy-ins refunded in the tournament prize pool currency.
* In addition, the remaining prize pool will be divided and distributed
according to chip count - (Remaining Prize Pool)*(Your Chip Count)/(Total
Chips in Play) = Your Share of Remaining Prize Pool.
In your case, this means $2088.00*34931/1171500=$62.26.

Buy-in + Tournament Fee Refunded: $3.30
+ Your Share of Remaining Prize Pool: $62.26
Total Amount Credited to Your Account: $65.56

i dont know if to be happy or sad.

first time that happened to me .

They have NO excuse for this happening. The money they rake and they can't afford redundant networks and systems to maintain 100% uptime? I love how they just yank out some rule they have for how payouts will be made. Funny how they thought of this ahead of time. What do they do for people who were playing at the ring game tables or freerolls? I'm becoming more and more convinced that online poker is for freerolls ONLY.

If you have any further questions, please contact customer support at support@fulltiltpoker.com. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Sincerely,
Full Tilt Poker

Im ok, with this. I would have preferred to play out the tourney but that appears to be impossible. I had more than the chip average at the time and was in the top 500 out of close to 3,000 in the tourney. You never know what would have happened had it played out though, I could have taken first and won the $138,000 payout. I guess thats poker, we take a risk just by playing the game online......

Yeah couldn't get on either. Last time that happened they canceled and split the prize pool by chip percentage. Refunded the entry fee charge as well.

As for the ring games any hands not completed prior to the server failure were considered dead hands and all money returned to the bettors at the start of the hand.

I cant really comment as I was not playing when this occurred, but what FullTilt did seems like a 'best business practice' for this kind of technical issue.

I cannot see any other foreseeable way to redistribute the funds in play than how they dealt with the issue.

So really what I'm trying to say is that we should be quiet thankful that Fulltilt resolved the issue in a professional manner and in a sufficient time frame.

This is standard procedure for refunding money during issues with their server.

Lucky for me, I wasn't playing last night!
For one of the most popular and top online poker rooms, Full Tilt Poker should have the technology to employ a 100% uptime. If they do need to do a whole server shutdown for big updates, there should be a warning before hand and an empty poker game time-slot.

They should upgrade their technology so this doesn't happen again. It was very unfair to the person that was 2nd out of 90. Even though we cannot predict the outcome, the person could of have been entitled to much more money.
