Sorry to bump an old thread but can you believe this is still not sorted for me!! FTP don't know what the problem is and I have doen everthing they have asked of me and still no luck...lucky I love Stars so much...
I would suggest formatting and reinstalling windows on your computer.
The problem will be something to do with your own computer rather than the FT software. The problem is that you are never going to get what is wrong with your machine correctly diagnosed via email.
A complete reinstall would reset everything back to what its supposed to be and would be virtually guaranteed to resolve this issue. (if you think about it, if 50 thousand people are fine and 3 are having issues, would you say the problem is the software or the configuration of those 3 machines?)
It should only take you 2 - 3 hours to reinstall the OS and all your programs.. its a pain.. but its going to resolve your problem.
I see what you're saying but this is being installed on a brand new laptop.
Even so I can virtually guarantee its a problem with your laptop rather than a bug in the software that effects you and 4 others in the world!
You have tried the obvious fixes, its time to bite the bullet and reinstall from scratch.
I never suggested it was a bug in the software - the help I've received from FTP has been to make changes to my sysytem. I'm fully aware where the problem lies, it's just that I don't know what it is. As for reinstaiing to a (literally) brand new machine, I don't think that will do anything.
Trust me, 10 years of working in IT and I'm telling you that the quickest and easiest solution to your problem is a complete reinstall.
OK, I'll try it. Wouldn't this just revert it to factory settings?
Not downloading it to the default location? Or do you mean not installing it in the default location? You can download the software to wherever you want, wouldn't change a thing. I can see installing to a custom folder causing a problem, but it shouldn't and that would be a problem in their software. I would definitely email them and tell them how you fixed it, because you should be able to install the software where ever you want.
I'VE FIXED IT!! I don't believe it!
The problem? Not downloading the FTP software to the default location...unbeliaveble. Anyway, rakeback here I come!
Glad to hear it. How did you finally figure that out??? Did you even bother with the reinstall? That sounded like a headache.
I recently bought a new laptop. Never worked with Vista, but with Windows 7, there is a 'program files' and 'program files/x86'. I've tried to change the default location, and it won't let you - you get an error message. All but 1 of the poker clients goes into x86. I think Ultimatebet is the only one that defaulted to its own new folder called 'poker application. Strange. But now I never touch the default location. It always knows where it wants to go, far be it from me to argue.
thats because the program files x86 folder denotes a 32bit program and the programs file denotes a 64 bit program.
Thanks. Knew it was something like that. The 'program files' folder contains all the new stuff that came with the computer plus Symantec, who I had to call & they walked me through loading my 2009 Internet Security on the new 64-bit. Still amazing to me though how the client software recognizes your system, and knows where to put stuff.

Were you trying to put your program files on a separate partition to the OS?
If so.. dont
Data is fine to have on a separate partition to the OS
But putting programs on a seperat parttition will slow the machine down, cause problems where the program has defaults to the OS partition and usually people do this with the mistaken belief that if they reinstall the OS they wont loose their programs. Due to the way the registry works, they will still have to reinstall all programs should they have to reinstall the OS.
So definitely put data on a separate partition, but dont try installing programs on a separate partition, there just isn't any point.
The folder I was installing the software to was on the same partition - just not the default Program Files location...
Then I have to ask...why?
Just.... why?
Well, it's irrelevant why I did. It makes no sense that it would cause a problem though.
Granted it shouldn't make any difference.
I am just genuinely interested as to why.
I work with computers 24/7 and often cannot fathom why my users do certain things.
So I am always interested when someone does something strange. I'm trying to figure out what, in their mind, they were trying to achieve.
