Because they only insure to 250K I would never have more than that in any one bank. See?

Not really a good comparision because if that were to happen I have homeowners insurance (I know not for cash in a shoebox) and I can also file a police report and they will help me catch the person and recover the money.

I mentioned insurance.
My point with that scenario was that the casino has no responsibility to refund your money, and the players have no responsibility to give you the money back. As far as they're concerned the player came there legitimately and spent money legitimately.

As for busting the thief, they'll probably be willing to give you the IP address. Heck, if you login to FTP, click "Security" then "Check login history" you can see who logged in from where.

Since it was your account that was stolen, you will have to be the one to seek prosecution.

But there's still not a lot you can do with the IP address. You can get a court order (from whatever country the hacker is in) to track the location of the IP address. If it was from a school or library or coffee shop or stolen from a neighbor the trail ends there. If you can track it to someone's house then you can lawyer up and pay all the court fees and try to get your money back. But it's going to be very very hard to prove that the person did it. If they have a wireless router they'll claim that somebody (maybe a neighbor) used it. Pinning it on a specific person is almost a lost cause, and will certain cost thousands of dollars.

I guess if the criminal told the Full Tilt software to save the hand history, and you can muster enough evidence to get the police to raid his house and check his hard drive, they can bust him.

Hmm,since FT has the intruders ip addy, seems like you could file charges against the guy,and have FT block that ip addy from ever logging into fulltilt.Surely the cops could find this person...

Is it possible to make a cash deposit. Somehow a cash deposit for the amount I lost yesterday was mae to my account in cash today

This just keeps getting more weird by the day.

That is weird.
Wow.
I'd love to hear an explanation for this.

Savage for the amount we are talking here it is obviously not worth my time to persue any of that.

I wonder how this deposit was made today. I don't dare ask FTP though cause they will likely take it away from me saying if I didn't make the deposit then the money isn't mine.

Just because i am paranoid doesn't mean it's not for real ;)

My guess is that Full Tilt found some substantial evidence and decided to give you your money back. Maybe the same guy has been doing it to other people and chip dumping to another account? So maybe they confiscated the money from the other account and gave you back your share?

I wouldn't be afraid to ask. I doubt they'd take it away.

I think you got really lucky this time.

Make sure that you don't use the same passwords between online sites, and those passwords should be different from forums and other online accounts as well.

I know something like that can be traumatic, and you're often left feeling violated. I'm glad it worked out so well for you.

Savage I would take it a step further and say that they investigated the IP address and perhaps found out that it was someone that works for them. They did not send me an email stating they figured out what went wrong. I wonder why they wouldn't send me an email to explain.

The only other explaination is that someone reding this thread was nice enough to loan me some money.....lol

I am still baffled by the Cash deposit method more than I am bafffled the money has returned. Does anyone outdie of FTP have the ability to deposit using cash. How does that even work.....LOL

Cash deposit seems like it'd be FT giving you the funds.
They had to have found something substantial enough to justify giving you the funds back. That's rare. I'd send an email to FT's support for sure to see what happened.

I had also received the following email today. Although I didn't see it until just a little bit ago

--------------------------------------------------------------
Upon further investigation, we were able to recover your lost funds, xxxx will be credited to your account in 2-3 business days.

Our review suggests that your email account may be compromised, resulting in the unauthorized access to your full tilt poker account.

At this time we suggest you login to your Full Tilt Poker account to change your registered email address. To change your account information, please follow the instructions below:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have requested how they were able to recover the funds. Not sure if they will be ableto tell me but I am surely glad they were. I have taken extra precautions to safeguard my account and I am more than likely also going to implement the 3 card PIN

Thanks to everyone in this thread that hung in there with me through this ordeal. The CC family is truly great

Very surprised, but glad, to hear that you got your funds back. Possible that they found some connection between the thief and one of the players who won your $$. I would be interested to hear if the person who lost funds to the thief also got their $$ back.

Nice kmixer, good to hear you got your funds back.
I knew that it wasn't somebody just "joy riding" your account.

Did you watch the hands he played HU where he won? He played the same horrible game and just got lucky. His luck ran out when he hit the 6-max tables. Considering he lost $$ to 3 or 4 different people I don't see how this could be chip dumping. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that FT simply gave kmixer his $$ back because 1) it was a small amount and 2) they thought they could make more in rake by keeping him as a customer than it cost them to credit his account.

It would be interesting to find the player who lost money to the hacker and ask them if their $$ were refunded as well. If so I'd say that would prove FTP found those responsible and they were able to set everything right. If not, this is likely a case were FTP refunded the $$ themselves to keep kmixer playing their site.

They could have discovered the guy who did it had more than one account and still had enough cash for them to recover his loss.

I feel fairly certain the money was probably recovered and not just replaced by FT.

I'd say the fact that they kept investigating suggests it was not an "inside" job. It gives me a little more faith in FT actually that they continued to investigate even though initially it looked like the player's security issue alone.

this is the exact reason i have not deposited into any of the site for years...i would rather play all frs...fact of the matter is you got extremely lucky getting your cash back..it is rare that the sites ever find fault in anything...its been my experience they dont care about anything but themselves.

if you can i recommend going out to a casino with your real money...i think its the safest way..period...but im just one opinion.

I agree with all of you that FT went the extra mile here to get my funds back to me.

I am also glad that this little experience has made everyone more aware of their password and security situations. We take these for granted all the time until. something like this happens.

I for you will be making sure my money is as secure as can be onine.

Buck that is good advice if I can ever get up to 150 I will get it out of there. How does that play into your BR strategy though? Do you consider the money that you took off to still be in play? Or do you just continue to play at levels that are inclusive of the 150 bankroll? This may need it's own new topic ;)

.......After a review into your account I can confirm that your account lost the aforementioned funds during what can be considered a 'foreign login' and occurred using a computer you have not utilized in the past. During this login approximate ..... was lost on the tables in legitimate hands. That is, the funds were not deliberately lost to a specific player in a fraudulent manner.

I've seen so many people on various forums post about the same thing, and they post this same response from FT that I've quoted in part above

this is bs as far as I'm concerned..... FT knows that the $ was lost during a foreign login... and on a computer not utilized in the past

FT says that these situations arise from a players computer being hacked and that no foreign log-ins are due to Full Tilts software or security being compromised........IMO, security that allows foreign log-ins without verification is flawed

FT not wanting to refund money in these cases is understandable as it would be very easy to fraudulently double your money this way

simple solution......block any activity on an account if there's a foreign log-in...whether it's next door, or halfway around the world....just dont allow it until the person proves they are who they're supposed to be....

if people that often play from multiple locations/computers don't want to be bothered with authenticating themselves every time they play they could reject foreign log-in protection..(and those people would accept the possibilty of losing their $ to hackers)

maybe this new 3 card verification thing will hamper any would be hackers for a while, but eventually they're sure to figure out a way to get that info too
