Well, I tried my first chance @ 5 card draw. It was out of my BR, but I wanted to try something new. Figured $10 for a few minutes of a new game wasn't bad. Went to my first table, had a few decent hands. Then I hit...

oooooo.... aaaaa.... made a decent amount on that.... then I got eaten up when my...

went against a boat... doh!

So, did I learn my lesson and leave, yes... but only to go to another table where I had this run.... [original] - 2nd round

Then I started to run cold. But by that point I had made my $10 back from the previous game, plus another $10, so time to go :D

I like 5CD too.

I would say it`s a hard game to win consistently online, though. Very tough to know where you are in a hand, since it`s a game that is heavily dependent on reads and the clues you might pick up in a live game are mostly absent.

What do you think ?

I like Draw, but yeah it's hard to play online, don't know if they have it on any site, at least not on what I play. I play it on poker computer games I have like Hoyle Casino 2007 and World Championship Poker 2007, but it's the most luck orientated game there is that's why pros rarely play it.

Every so often, as a change of pace, I'll play the 6 player SnG on Stars. It usually starts out slow and people hang back until the blinds hit the 50/100 mark. Then action picks up.

I must admit I have no idea what a "good" starting hand is in 5CD but I tend to play most pairs early.

I think I'm 90 cents up on them so far, I've won a couple and lost a few more.

Most of the time I see people chasing their straight and flush draws without proper odds. If you don't play those unless you are in the blinds (in an unraised pot) you will probably be far enough ahead to show a profit.

6-handed, I will play AA or KK any time, QQ from the cutoff or button, or JJ from the button. The smaller single pairs generally get mucked unless I am stealing from late position.

Two pair depends on the pairs and also the action. I would much rather have a big pair drawing to trips or 2 pair than have two small pair drawing to only 4 outs, and will frequently just get away from hands like that if the bigger pair is under JJ if someone is generally raising pre-flop.

Keep in mind that I am generally playing pot-limit. In limit, unless there is a lot of reraising pre-flop, you can generally play the smaller 2 pair hands.

Obviously, trips or pat hands are being played any time I get them :)

Egon - I was playing NL, so to be honest... it scared the heck out of me. I knew I was over my head since I'm relatively new to poker anyway and this was a NL table with no way to get a read whatsoever. As soon as I got my first $10 (plus another $10 from the streak), I was outie :D . I'll definitely play if I see a decent limit table though.

SAH89 - Try downloading pokerstars' .net version. You don't have to deposit... actually, you can't deposit with the .net version, but you can play with play money chips. They do have a 5CDNL table in the play money area... which I went to AFTER I got my $$ back.

MDTed - I'll have to look for hat SNG. If it's not much, I'd definitely lik to give it a shot. From what I could see there's really no telling what a good starting hand is. I saw people win with A high all the way to my quad-k's beating a flush.

Ken - I can definitely see the chasing part. When I went to the play money table I was chasing a lot. I may have had a pair of 5's or whatnot, but did I keep them? Nope, I'd give a 5 away in hopes for that miracle str8 or flush draw I had. I also saw people on the real money tables who would call a 3xBB raise, swap 1 card then fold to a c-bet... obvious drawing hand. So, if I play again, I think I'll keep the pairs in hopes for another pair, or trips... or the (usually) big hand, the boat.

Al in all, it was a fun change of pace, but I would definitely suggest the play money tables if you've never tried it, or at least the limit tables. NL was pretty scary for not being able to get any type of reads.

The SnG is $1 + .10 buyin, it's PL but you seldom see people betting pot, at least early. Raising seems to invite certain death as you're outdrawed by your opponent.

This is on Stars btw, don't know where you were playing.

If anyone is interested, there are usually plenty of 5CD games available on the 24H Network (Costa Del Poker et al) and on the Ongame Network (Mansion, Hollywood et al). Unfortunately, neither are open to our American friends.

Gave the $1=$.10 a shot, 6 player table, came in second. After the bubble was out I played well for a while, then got bored and just let it go. 1st-2nd = $1 difference, no biggie.

Wow - congrats... that's awesome!

I haven't played 5D in a while, and your original post got me itching to. I decided to play a session of three $1 SNGs to see if my style that works at the $5 and $10 level worked there also. I actually found the $1 games tougher because the players were using moves that were unconventional and even random.

I did win all three of them, but it was a struggle. ;)
