So I assume that you have no bank accounts, no credit cards, no car loan, no mortgage and no other accounts with any kind of financial institution because you fear that your identity will be stolen.

You can not get any of those things without providing them with private information that could potentially lead to your identity being stolen.

I also assume you don't pay any bills by using the US mail. Because your private information can be stolen from your mailbox.

I could go on and on. There is nothing wrong with being careful - but you can take it too far.

I agree with you to a point dakota, but to many, there may be quite a difference to a US (or other country) Regulated Financial Institution, and an Unregulated PokerSite where people have no idea who owns it or runs it.

If these sites were responsible they would have asked for all that when you first deposited. They don't because they want you to send money first. In that case they can ask you for it later when you try to withdraw and you would have to choose between taking that risk or letting them keep your money. i suppose the way pokerstars is doing it is a little better than that.

Why would this come as a surprise. Lots of poker sites do this. None of us like it but most of us will do it too get our money out.

Well there shouldn't be any difference in concern because most identity theft does not occur at Poker sites - regulated or not. There are plenty of other places for you to worry about that happening - like in your home or within your family, from your mailbox, skimming, phishing, stealing your id's/credit cards, dumpster diving, public records, or at one of those nicely regulated financial institutions. :p

Sorry - but I was a manager in credit card fraud for years and the last place I am worried about stealing my identity is Pokerstars. Could it happen - yes. Is it likely to happen - no.

I agree with Debi...about a year ago, my very own financial institution dumped all of its account info into a dumpster without shredding or burning it...luckily, it was found by the News crew & now resolved. Theft & scams occur everyday...but I have already given my account info to PS and others in order to play...a utility bill is no big deal. And I'm cautious as to how I release personal info to anyone!

OMG Does this mean that PS is working with the NEW WORLD ORDER? They are trying to get all of our information, so they will know where we are at all times? Does this mean the end of the world is coming? Must be, Nostraudamus was right, if u look at verse : full house, and quatrain: quads, then u will see the scary resemblence in his words, must have been he knew this was coming. 2012 is right around the corner , DO YOU SEE THE SIGNS?

LOL, but no seriously I thought that all poker sites did this when it was time to cash out? The only thing new is now the losing players who never withdrawl still have to show there id's? Not much diff than anywhere else, even B&M from what I hear. I think the only place u don't have to have ID, would be somewhere u do not want to be. (go down that alley , bust a right, kick the door once, knock 4 times, then cookoo like a chicken, mooo like a cow, then a big guy named bruce will answer the door, tell him Pauly sent ya.) <-- You wont need ID there...

Ive had to do this for most of my poker accounts its really no big deal,it just speeds up the withdrawl process, the worst site to verify my self was betfair, man they where so fuzzy,I ve you used the same id and info I send all the poker rooms that ask,and they where the only ones who refused to accepted the id I sent even though it was national Id card issued by the Federal goverment here.
Some sites even gave me extra cash,or bonus money just for going through the trouble, the best bonuses and extra cash came from poker 770,they gave $25.00 just for verifying my account with them, which was cool, everst poker gave me $10.00...:D

What do you people think that the Isle of Man is going to do with your drivers' license and a copy of a utility bill? Buying something online gives your financial information out; that's vastly more important than creating fake Arizona IDs overseas. =)

I trust stars with tens of thousands of dollars and payments to my bank, I'm pretty sure that showing them my ID is the least of my worries.

Can anyone verify this?

My previous history with PS is a deposit and a withdrawal about a year ago, no ID verification required.

I deposited about 2 weeks ago, no problems.

I just made a withdrawal request like 10 minutes ago, and they didn't ask for any verification.

What's up?

JLtrooper, did you withdraw using a method that you have previously deposited by? Like deposit with a credit card and then withdraw to the same, etc. I'm pretty sure if you have then they may not ask for it. Again this post was about them starting to ask for everybody's ID working their way down from Supernova.

Suit,

No I requested a check. However, I deposited a check from them into my bank account awhile back so maybe that is good enough verification?

Do you have a bank account? Well if you don't, get one. Then you can use a bank statement as verification of your address.
