Ohio here. Money drives these decisions and passing a comprehensive gambling bill that includes both poker and sports wagering will look far more lucrative than poker alone.Wait until more States legalize marijuana, maybe our legislators will partake and not have such big stick up their butts!
The overturning of the law is one more baby step. Waiting for Pennsylvania to get online, then Ohio will follow. After that, I think things will gather more steam and start to loosen up a bit.
This is good news for Americans. Does that mean, you will have access to international sites soon, too? What does that mean for us foreigners? Don't take it as offense, please, but I heard so often that in the wake of Black Friday the competition got tougher, because so many "customers" (aka fish aka recreationals) from US where cut off. Does that mean Americans are more fishy?
This is great news for U.S online poker players. Unlike sports betting online poker used to be legal nationwide. Now with sports betting being legal they have no argument to keep us from playing online. No disrespect to ACR but I can't wait until I can get a piece of the Pokerstars action again.
This is a very positive development ... although I'm not going to hold my breath, and feel that for most states in the union this may be a step forward at some point in time ... I too would like to reconnect with Pokerstars... I don't know though the way things are in this country right now, and especially in this state .... I mean here, we have some of the most backward laws on the books, and everything here is a sin which in Missouri is worse than a crime ...
I know I have said this to you before, but worth saying again. In Washington State it is legal to smoke marijuana recreationally. Poker is a felony to play, even with play chips. How backward is that?
You mentioned each State has their own rules, the Feds don't have any. The problem we have right now is that there are not enough numbers within one State to the next. What is needed is to stage a huge one-day event of protest. We could either march on our individual State Capitols, or better yet, march across a bridge and stand in another State and tell them we are moving! Another option is to bribe a politician with 2.35% of our rake if that will get the job done.
I do remember you saying that ... and I agree 150 % That's incredibly backward .. But my statement wasn't just meant to encompass the legality of online poker...it was more a generalized picture of how I see most of what goes on here.... There are some really scary things here that are either still legal or not illegal...
As backward as the example you described is, and I have never lived in Washington State, but I feel they and a lot of other places ( most of the USA are more advanced in many other ways ) and I feel the climate here will prevent anything good from happening. I think at least, most of the other places that do silly backward things like that have hope for change. Change and progress just isn't the nature of this state.
I do also like your idea of protest in one form or another and would join for the sake of others, and believe in other states it would make a difference. I really don't feel anything makes a difference here like that, and somebody may get shot ... some churchgoers here still burn bars to the ground here lol, and that is not a joke.
