Seems legalized poker has stalled.

The States can legalize dope but not poker. Is it because they can regulate and tax one, Marijuana, but not the other?

Surely legalize it, the problem is undoubtedly the economic arrangement. Since it is always problem is the money once mutual agreement and it will be legal will have to wait to make the decisions suitable for all

PA, looks to near, with online poker:)
The one site I really want to see is PS

I'm in PA as well and just saw that the house & senate both passed the bill (but with different tax rates). I guess they have to agree on what the rate should be but I'm really excited that it's close! Anyone know how long that process takes or where I can find out more? It doesn't seem to be big news in the regular papers here.

The problem with online poker becoming legal is that there are so many local gambling laws in place. It is hard enough to make people see that online poker is much different than "gambling" much less get it legalized.

Online Poker will lose traction and will never become too popular to get it legalized. Here are my reasons:

1) All the young online pros since Black Friday in USA have transitioned to live poker.
2) There are currently no young online pros since Black Friday has killed them all (in USA)
3) There are a lot of new casinos in USA now in many new states.
4) The promotions in these new rooms are killing every hope of any online action - EX) 1000 High hand promotion - better than pokerstars jackpot wheel
5) Live play promotes virtually nil collusion and bots - online, you have to be worried about russian/bulgarian/chinese bots.
6) Everyone playing live is happy to lose or win money. Can't have this action in online anymore.
7)As is evident, without USA, online poker rooms will keep busting one by one soon
8) wsop's decision to make the wsop pay per view is an online-play killer.
8) The future is live poker - no worries of russian/chinese collusion.

My tip for online pros - better start saving your last penny, you will definitely need it soon.

Online poker will pick up when Casinos start closing down. This is not gonna happen in the near future.

It depends!
The tax rate is the same, at 16% for online poker in the house & senate.

The House bill imposes an across-the-board 16 percent tax rate on online gambling. It also requires a single up-front licensing fee of $8 million.

The Senate’s gaming package calls for an unwieldy 54 percent tax rate on online slots and casino table games and a 16 percent tax rate on online poker. The Senate also split the gaming licenses into two, with a casino license costing $5 million and a poker license also costing $5 million.

I don't see it being a big problem, to get it passed soon!
PA needs cash now!!

while this is true, this isn't poker-only legilsation, and in fact there will be no poker without casino games (anywhere other than CA), so that simple fact is kinda moot.

The 54% tax rate on the other hand, is also what the casinos pay on slots, so it shouldn't be a burden for them, they are used to it (one could argue, and I would concur, that the 54% rate on B&M is also insanely high, but ...). But StarsGroup et al are saying no way in hell will they pay that rate.

If it passes at that rate, some are saying no operators will apply. This may or may not be true, but I like the way it turned all the poker advocates and poker media types into 'anti-tax, supply-siders' even if only on this one issue lol

Yap, you observed that correctly. I wouldn't bet on online-poker coming back within the next 10 years or so in the US.

Poker is already legal in the United States, so I'm assuming you mean regulated poker which honestly would be worse than what we have now unless enough states joined player pools together to form a big enough player pool to make it worth it. That whole process is going to take a long time and I'm not even sure that is going to end up happening since states with bigger populations are probably not going to want to join up with states with smaller populations because there wouldn't be an incentive to do so.

O how I miss the days of 2003-2006 playing online. The government failed us all by letting sites like AB/UB steal from innocent people and then decided to go after sites like Pokerstars who served customers right and weren't doing anything wrong. Our government is controlled by crooks; the worst kind of scum.

I'd stick to very established sites and bitcoin. It shouldn't be a problem
