Poker is a sport or life?
The fact that for a long time the
poker game was seen only as one of the card games. To this day there is an opinion that poker is solely a game of chance, not unlike
roulette. But from this point of view on poker watching people who've never played and have little idea of the specifics of this game. It is obvious that
gambling winnings does not depend on the art of the players and from the event. Of course, the value of the case in poker, no one will deny, but this is not important. The poker commercial card game (i.e. play money), in which winning or losing is determined more by player skill than luck, that distinguishes poker from gambling games.
Well, I agree the skeptics in, say, poker is not gambling, but that it sports?
To begin to clarify the concept of "sport". In dictionaries we can find the following definition: sport (eng. sport from disport – game entertainment) is organized according to certain rules activities of people bearing the competitive nature and consisting in the comparison of their physical or intellectual abilities and skills, as well as preparation for this activity (i.e. exercise).
Any sport has its own rules. Of course, there are in poker. To determine the winner in poker are guided by very clear rules. Betting rules determine the correct course of the game, and some actions are banned. Violation of rules will entail punishment such as fine, expulsion from the games and even the deprivation of the entire amount of money.
Whether poker competition abilities and skills? Of course. Although poker players often claim that the game does not require any special abilities and poker available to all, yet to achieve high results of certain abilities required. This is obvious and true for any spheres of human activity. For poker player it is important not only intellectual abilities, such as good memory, logical thinking, attention and observation, and physical condition. For successful participation in tournaments that can last more than one day, you need at least endurance and stress resistance. Nevertheless, any ability (high or not) can be developed.
As for skills, the skill in poker is evident in how good players adapt to the game of their opponents. A smart poker player is able to intuitively sense a
bluff, to analyze and systematize tendencies of other players to bluff convincingly with a hopeless combination on hand, maybe for a long time to focus and keep a straight face. The ability to hide from your opponents strengths and weaknesses, the ability to choose the right tactics to achieve victory – all highly valued in any sport. This is valuable in poker.
