Poker is a sport or life?

The fact that for a long time the poker game was seen only as one of the card games. To this day there is an opinion that poker is solely a game of chance, not unlike roulette. But from this point of view on poker watching people who've never played and have little idea of the specifics of this game. It is obvious that gambling winnings does not depend on the art of the players and from the event. Of course, the value of the case in poker, no one will deny, but this is not important. The poker commercial card game (i.e. play money), in which winning or losing is determined more by player skill than luck, that distinguishes poker from gambling games.

Well, I agree the skeptics in, say, poker is not gambling, but that it sports?

To begin to clarify the concept of "sport". In dictionaries we can find the following definition: sport (eng. sport from disport – game entertainment) is organized according to certain rules activities of people bearing the competitive nature and consisting in the comparison of their physical or intellectual abilities and skills, as well as preparation for this activity (i.e. exercise).

Any sport has its own rules. Of course, there are in poker. To determine the winner in poker are guided by very clear rules. Betting rules determine the correct course of the game, and some actions are banned. Violation of rules will entail punishment such as fine, expulsion from the games and even the deprivation of the entire amount of money.

Whether poker competition abilities and skills? Of course. Although poker players often claim that the game does not require any special abilities and poker available to all, yet to achieve high results of certain abilities required. This is obvious and true for any spheres of human activity. For poker player it is important not only intellectual abilities, such as good memory, logical thinking, attention and observation, and physical condition. For successful participation in tournaments that can last more than one day, you need at least endurance and stress resistance. Nevertheless, any ability (high or not) can be developed.

As for skills, the skill in poker is evident in how good players adapt to the game of their opponents. A smart poker player is able to intuitively sense a bluff, to analyze and systematize tendencies of other players to bluff convincingly with a hopeless combination on hand, maybe for a long time to focus and keep a straight face. The ability to hide from your opponents strengths and weaknesses, the ability to choose the right tactics to achieve victory – all highly valued in any sport. This is valuable in poker.:)

What is the poker in Russia

Overall, the poker held and holds a worthy place among the other intellectual games, and in Russia the law has risen in one number with such sports as Billiards, bridge and chess. Of course, official recognition does not change the fact beloved by many games. But I want to believe that the domestic poker is just the beginning and there is every chance to go global.:) :) :)

what is the modern poker

Modern poker is undoubtedly a sport game that requires skills, calculations, training and patience. In this sense, poker can be safely put on a par with such intellectual sports as sport bridge or chess.

Sports is recognized as poker where people play exclusively against each other and not against the casino. In a casino the player confronts the dealer, whose actions are regulated by strict rules. In this game you need to put poker hands, and the combination is less probable, the more it pays for the casino. Strictly speaking, this is not quite poker, here the dealer acts as the machine, nothing depends on him. Another thing – the real poker where people compete with each other. In this game there are rivalries, psychology, bluffing, math, and many other nuances. This version of the game called club poker. And in tournaments on club poker sports component is very large: all issued the same number of chips, the participants are in equal conditions and fight for the prize Fund. Lost your chips – departed.

A huge role in the popularization of poker played online. online poker has gained millions of fans around the world, including in Russia. However, the game over the network too early to call the sport, as current tools of computer security are not able to provide absolute integrity of the tournament. It is necessary to exclude the possibility of illegal negotiations of players, collusion, etc. In online poker opponents are unable to observe each other's behavior that does not require high concentration of attention and gain control over emotions. In addition, the computer accumulates statistics about their opponents and their own, that allows depending on the results to adjust the game. Lately becoming more and more popular game over the Internet using Webcams, it makes the game more interesting and adds a sense of reality. Without a doubt, the number of fans of online poker will grow every year.:) :)

Of course Rafa realized to play poker takes much time. Then, I think it is not possible to play tennis and play poker at the same time especially if his career is dedicated to tennis. Besides, you know he is having troubles with his wrist. I hope he will return soon. Go Nadal!

Why is this important? What is the point of team poker stars.jus asking
That's only a marketing strategy and nothing more (a bad one I think). I don't care about Rafa or someone else...I don't play poker for them, just for me. Instead of paying some dudes just to play poker at tables is better to invest in freerolls with better prizes to wellcome newcomers.

Although it's an old thread , last year he departed or was dismissed from pokerstars team ( don't know but I would like very much to hear what happened fro curiosity ) I'll leave my comment .
Personally I like him ( but I like eve more Djokovic ) , but I have the feeling PokerStars didn't promote him . didn't use him as much as it should have done , it only did some poker duels with some pros and ronaldo ... Maybe its my impression but I think the guys at the marketing department have to work more with the stars like ronaldo .
Nevertheless , I would prefer , instead of creating a large team with many sportstars , PokerStars to take only one or two ( Ronaldo is enough !!! ) and spend the other money for freerolls ( they stopped the 100K which was a very good freeroll and I haven't understood the reason ... )

I have to agree with you for the level of funding it must cost to hire these celebrity endorsements I am sure some other incentives could be run that add value to the players experience.

Very cool! I found it very interesting the heads up between celebrities, CR7 vs Miss World for example ... it helps popularize the sport , and Poker Stars have made this job very well ! It is a pity that does not have other rooms making a strong marketing ...

You say it's useless but they clearly have some kind of impact otherwise they wouldn't repeatedly sign up new pros, they might not have any effect on you but for fans of the sportspeople it probably does.

Very good, I don't like celebrations who pokerstars "employ". For example Ronaldo C. or Neymar.

Haven't seen/heard that guy play poker at all, specially not @ Poker Stars.
His contract with poker stars was sick, actually, Stars should have use that money and to invest it in promotional programs for players not to waste it on "poker pros" like this one

I think that it is good to have some interesting and famous people like Nadal, Ronaldo, Neymar and CR7 playing poker because is nice to see them in the tables and maybe sometime meet them in a tournament and also see how they play as in terms of poker they are recreative (like us) and not professionals!
