It's true people will definitely win life-changing money throughout the series but the majority will walk away from the tournament with nothing to show for their time, money and efforts. Since the conclusion of the 2022 wsop, many poker players will sit down and calculate just how much they won or lost. The table below gives us a chance to see just how swingy poker can be even amongst the pros. If we didn't know it already, making a profit is not a guarantee with poker.

2022 WSOP Player Results
Events Played/Bullets FiredProfit/Loss
Daniel Negreanu50+-$1.1 million
Daniel Sterlitz21+$128,727
Scott Ball49+$40,879
Landon TiceUnknown+$7,300
Eric Baldwin41+$1,767
Ethan Yau60-$101,708
Johnnie Moreno31-$4,511

this guy Rampage seems like a nice guy, but I feel that one day variance is going to get him really hard

Daniel Negreanu: he overestimated himself and underestimated others.
I would probably recommend him to take a rest and reset his feelings.

Daniel is a great player. But he relied more on luck. And luck is changeable. That's why he has this result. Daniel needs to get back to skill.

oh the variance of tournament poker. Yet just change one result from 16th to 1st in event 19 and were talking about the $360,000 in profit he made this year.

I dont know overall but heard he was running very unlucky this summer. He did make 1 final table and final 2 table on 6 more.

He did have one good thing happen to him this summer. He meet me. :) OK I was the luck one to meet him. Just could not resist.

When you look at such tables and read articles, the loss of your small bankroll may seem like a mere trifle.
WSOP is the most prolonged tournament. Therefore, ups and downs at such events are inevitable. No one is immune from them.

Daniel Negreanu has been Vlogging his WSOP 2022 on his YouTube channel and he keeps a running tally of his earnings/losses. Playing in as many games as he does at those high stakes, being down over a million isn't actually as terrible as it sounds. He is still playing well and there is just some variance is all, we must keep in mind how many "buy-ins" this actually is. Seeing the money from this perspective makes losing a million less intimidating...Negreanu discusses this some here:
