I watched the 60 minutes episode and it was pretty clear to me that Ivey was doing sth very shady. Demanding a specific type of deck, a chinese dealer that was able to talk to his chinese companion. C`mon...

From what I belive he was using edge sorting, in most arease advatage play like this is not illegal, but the casinos can expel you for utilising them as they are private property, kind of like card counting in blackjack, the fact is is the casino should have caught him doing it and expelled him immedietly, not let him play and then decide to not pay him later, that is the casinos fault and Ivey should get his money. if they want than ban him for life after but he earned it and they let him keep playing. I bet they wouldnt have a problem if he was trying to do it and lost money, I doubt they would have refunded him losses because he was so called cheating.

Yeah, I was speculating back when this story first came out that it seemed like the casino was basically freerolling him.

The judge apparently didn't find that to be the case though - he seemed to be of the impression that the casino was genuinely clueless as to what he was doing, and the nasty Mister Ivey lied to them and put one over on them.

I find that hard to believe, mostly because if really is true then the casino needs to fire the game security people overseeing the session for gross incompetence. And while I haven't read the whole judgement in the case word for word, I found it interesting that nobody seems to have directly asked the staff working on the night "did you recognise that he was edge sorting?".

IANAL and I don't know that it would change the outcome of the case even if they did say "yes", but it would certainly be interesting information...

I don't understand, if they don't have a concrete evidence, why don't pay for him? Hold on Ivey !!

I'm not sure I understand... what do you mean "if they don't have concrete evidence"?

Ivey openly admitted to edge sorting. What he did isn't in question here - just whether it was legal or not.

I am sure he was already paid and the public just wasnt informed. I dont think they can hold his winnings like that and not to mention he is well known and that will only make that casino look bad. :)

Casino should not pay Ivey. He is a crook. Look at the other casino he never paid out. The $10+millions from full tilt. People like Him,Lindgren,Ferugson,Lederer are only out for themselves and not the actual players.

Ivey doesn't need to cheat to earn money, he is a very profitable poker player. This sounds very strange!!

If you go back and read the full story...

Ivey has freely admitted that he and his partner were edge sorting. You can argue over whethere that's "advantage play" or actual "cheating", but the fact that he did it isn't in question here.

I seem to see Ivey's name a lot in these kinds of stories.

That's because, according to the reports, he does this sort of stuff a lot.

Would you feel the same if you were in a multi-million $$ high stakes game against him and he could read an advantage you don't have so he could win your money ?

IMO, his edge sorting is the same as insider trading.

As far as I'm concerned, his edge sorting is advantage play, the same as card counting. Although frowned upon by casinos, it's not technically illegal. Nor would I consider it cheating, as there are a number of simple measures the casino can take to prevent it.
