BetMGM poker is powered by PartyPoker, and has become the second online poker site to go live in Michigan.

'The demand for online poker in Michigan was made clear by players across the state. [We're] proud to offer them a seat at our tables' Ray Stefanelli, CEO of BetMGM, said in today's press release.

What does “powered by party poker” mean?

And how does it differ than party poker NJ? Is is just a different skin due to the casino partner requirements?

partypoker is the site BetMGM will be using. Michigan residents are the only ones able to play this one, just as PartyPoker in New Jersey can only be played by those in New Jersey. These states have not pooled their members/accounts so both states are limited to those within their state lines. Does this answer what you are asking?

If states pooled their members/accounts - would party poker NJ and bet be combined?

I guess I’m confused as to why it’s called “party poker” in NJ but “Bet MGM - powered by party poker” in MI and the significance of that difference.

As far as I know, Michigan has not pooled their members/accounts with any other state as of yet. I am guessing since BetMGM had already opened up their sports betting platform and they have the connections with PartyPoker and therefore would use their poker platform? Just finished a quick read of the link below, also announcing the BetMGM poker site available through PartyPoker.

Gotcha. I guess I was wondering if party poker would ever come to MI... or if net MGM *Is* party poker for all intensive purposes.

Here's hoping that all of this movement for legalized online poker in the United States is in its infancy because as it's currently situated, it's going to be very difficult for these operators to continue to thrive with a limited player pool. Not everyone's going to have enough disposable income to be depositing very often given the current economic climate.

But, at the same time, it might take the pandemic to get things to move more quickly from a legislative standpoint as governments try to figure out how to generate income.

It should be very interesting though how it plays out.

Hopefully links are allowed: found an article that answered my question and wanted to post it for reference :)

Turns out MGM poker is a poker skin that is managed by a “partnership” company between MGM and party poker.
( like how black chip and American card room are part of same network, albeit with different rewards )

We could still see a stand alone party poker App in MI; however it would just be a different skin (same player pool).

The more states that legalize it the more pressure it will put on other states.

I did delete that one because unfortunately it did have a lot of ads/affiliate type links.
