That is absolutely horrible. A lot of people feel that poker is a game of probability, which sure it is, but it is also gambling. If poker is interfering with your life, mixed with other forms of gambling and putting you in a hole financially, please, get help. There are so many outlets for one to get help for addiction of any kind. It takes courage to reach out and get help for yourself, but please do it. Even if it's posting on CC for support, do it. This is a tragic loss and best wishes for his family and friends in the wake of this horrific event.

This is a very sad story. Not that they're to blame but I wonder how he was borrowing money from so many different people:( some people's addiction to gambling is very strong though. I've always felt lucky that I don't have that addiction even though I like to play a lot .... but never risk more than small amounts of money.. prayers for his family though too...:(

I would not have wanted to see such news! He lost a large amount of money but there is no amount to make up for a man's life! It is a tragedy for family and friends, it was a stupid and desperate gesture on his part. Maybe if he had someone next to him to really listen to what was happening to him and given some good advice for sure this episode would not have happened but he shut himself in and made the final decision!

Very sad news , tragic that he deided to commit suicide . RIP .

But I hope this doesn't damage online poker in india . I mean what kind of not good poker player , who also can't afford playing with his own money high stakes , goes and plays these games , loses and can't stop playing , he borrows a tonne of money , he loses all and then he decides to kill himself . . Clearly the people that behave like that have many personal issues and problems , also financial problems , it's not poker/casino the actual problem , a logical person can understand this .

The Man went All-In and ended up in the well...
I actually find this very funny...and specifically proves that we play amongst variably, and veritable, crazy folks, because you have to be Psychotic to be a top Poker Player, which this guy, obviously, was not.
I don't think there are any lessons to learn here, other than to make sure your well has water in it before you jump!

The Indian poker community mourns the death of local player who committed suicide after an online loss.

In what is considered a tragic turn of events and a blow to the poker industry as a while, Krunal Mehta took his own life on October 2. Indian media outlets were informed of the death on October 5th through an official police report. With the evidence found, after losing $110,000 in an online poker game, he jumped into a well.

Indian Poker Industry Rocked as $110,000 Loss Leads to Suicide

A very sad story. And in India such stories move very fast with more additions and alterations to the actual incident. At the end, the poker site where he played might be held responsible for everything. And that is not a good thing for poker. A skilled game will be branded as completely gambling.
Although it is said that site had done nothing wrong but some questions definitely will be raised.
Every site displays two things. One, 18+ age and another one is "responsible gambling". Mehta clearly showed signs of not following responsible gambling. Same is true for the site also. When he was losing heavily, did the site ever inquired about what was his source of income? Or, how much he was earning from his job? If such inquiries were made earlier and if he was restricted to play up to some extent then probably this sad incident might be prevented.

Tragic and very sad!

Without knowing the details of this players life it would appear that he had a gambling addiction that developed to the point where the only way he could see out, was to end his life. Gambling addictions can affect people within every community and the poker community is one of those that will unfortunately find individuals who fall into addiction.

I used to play at a venue where there was a chap who played every game going, you could never push him off a hand and he never folded to anything, eventually running out of money, his marriage and his home! We've probably all seen or heard about someone like this. Sure a few people suggested to the management that he needed some help and the odd individual tried to address this with him, although none of this worked!

We all need to encourage responsible gambling within poker, and as has been alluded to already in this thread, we the poker community i.e. the facilitators of poker and its players should probably do more to address the addiction situation within our game.

Lastly from me on this, I don't think these situations should be mocked, but rather that empathy for addicts should be shown by all the poker community as indeed it has largely been here!

The Dude jumped in a well... People lose their lives every day.
ESPECIALLY IN INDIA... from war, poverty, crime, drugs, and all manner of things that make them victims...
This guy was no victim... his opulence, in Nation of poverty does not permit him any compassion...
When folks say "the indian poker community" that includes me, and I know this fool could have lived better than he did, and die a respectable death...
Suicide of this sort is not creditable.

First time ever I ever went to a Casino was on a Casino boat with only a 20$ chip voucher
I turned it to 40 on blackjack exactly in time to enter the 40$ sng NL holdem
only 9 players showed up so it was winner take all.
I placed 2nd and wanted to jump off the boat into the ocean.
The only thing that stopped me was my friend saying "coast guards gonna come and save you and charge you couple thousand dollars if you jump"

I wish everyone would think twice and has a friend to talk them down.
Got money troubles? Got life troubles? Troubles don't disappear if you're dead.
Lifes a troubling journey.
Enjoy your losses as well as your wins and grow from them!
seeya on the tables!

Truest words...Life is a troubling journey, and you need good friends and family to help you stay on that journey. RIP

Suicide is never an answer. Very sad news.

It's important to play within your limits.

So sad. As Doyle Brunson has said ... "Buying a new stack of chips should be no more painful to you than buying a hamburger". Never play with money that you can't afford to lose ! Also, suicide is never the answer !

poker sites should use that motto and make people sign some sort of pledge that they understand what it means.

To burn through over $100K online without some of stop method is terrible.
