I keep seeing these posts and they are incorrect. The only state with laws specifically regarding poker online is the state of Washington. It's no longer illegal on the federal level
This is probably the question most commonly asked by new players. The short answer is yes, online poker is legal in the United States on the individual level. ... Most states don't have laws against online gambling, but in some states, such as Washington state, online gambling is a felony offense.

Just check your state's laws. Hell I live in Kansas, a very conservative state, and all gambling online is legal here
Playing...and having an actual business be able to server up games to you are two different things. Its not illegal to play but in most states gambling sites can't operate. Its all a money thing. In Wisconsin we have India reservations that have casinos on them. I'd bet eventually they get into this and it breaks it all open.
They are legealizing marijuana all over the US and some states even legealized recreational marijuana but if I want to play poker online that is unacceptable. The feds need to make it a state issue like they are doing with gambling and they need to get rid of the ban already
Well said Anjo !!!I believe that people should have the right to choose what they want for themselves.
Freedom is the great flag the United States has all lifted up.
I think now is the time to put this into practice.
Yeah that's crazy to have to physically go to another state to play online poker. Look at the bright side .... At least you have that option. I feel the same way about online poker as I do about Marijuana. Legalize it federally in the US, and tax/regulate it !!! There is soooooo much money to be made, and that money could go a long ways towards improving education, infrastructure, and multiple other areas.I am in NY close to the NJ border, Its a pain in the ass to literally walk down the street into NJ just so i can play online because I have to be in the state. Its the dumbest law. But someone said "its because we have dummies who make the laws"
I never truly understood why they took that right away in the first place
This seems to be a matter of interpretation, no doubt directly related to the individual judge's enjoyment of and proficiency at the game. It's not illegal on the federal level. Has been in states hands since 2012
On August 21, 2012, a federal judge in New York ruled that poker is not gamblingunder federal law because it is primarily a game of skill, not chance.
