If you are newish to poker focus on learning the game, hard for me to believe one who cannot become a winning player online without software help is going to reap even enough benefit to justify the expense. Fairly early on, I tried some free software & quickly realized I didn't know enough about the game to properly set up the software to ask appropriate questions.

I think it is useful for professionals. If you are an ordinary "amateur" this software is useless. I have never used any software, but I often hear about it from people. I consider myself an "amateur" and I think for me it is completely useless

Like every thing else in poker it depends. Software like Holdem Manager(HUD) is generally legal on most sites. Active solver software is generally illegal on all sites. How you use the software will determine how valuable it is.
