Playing with play money vs. Real money

Having all the players put their BB in the middle and just wait for the flop / turn /river cards in order to make the best combination is not the poker I like to play.
Without having something to lose[ your buy in ] you won't make the thinking I like about the math part of the game.

I'd rather got outplayed 100 times by a better opponent than losing from a random clicker.
If you don't compete with better players you will never improve.

Last but not least, there is nothing bad about kill some free time by playing play money but if you want to improve your game it's not a ''place'' you must stay long!

a game of virtual money is not a game, but just luck, real poker starts at $ 10, and so your aces can hit and hit two pairs on K2, for example.

real poker is is played with money,in the end u have to do it,if u want is not necessary,i mean not everyone plays poker for money,some play for fun,and that is it

If you are attempting to learn the game by playing with play money you will get a very unrealistic view of how the game should be played. Players will throw their play chips into the pot in situations where they would never do so with real money. Why not? If they lose those chips they just go get more and repeat. I suggest you play for pennies. If that is too much for your budget, then find another way to pass your time.

Play very cheap stakes that you can afford.


You will find even at the cheapest stakes there is a large increase in the skill, or more accurately put, less likelihood of people just blowing off stacks of play chips because they do not care.


In any cash game, even the super cheap ones people do not want to lose. Most of them will play far more conservatively and you will find way less people that will make odd calls.


Now that said, if you are as you say "not very good" you need to learn from what they do, what hands they play, what hands they call down when they get bet at. Don't just watch your hand, watch every hand and see how they all play against each other and why some players are winning and others are losing.

In my experience I found joy just playing the game and not worrying about what I had to lose. I could play trash cards and it was ok. I developed my skill and realized I could actually make real money from playing freerolls.

I believe if one can't find joy in just playing the game, what's the point in playing? I've had lots of fun playing poker and this is after losing many games. I've also won many.

Play to have fun because when money is involved, people start going crazy and get aggressive. The joy and fun of the game seems lost. That being said, it doesn't stop me playing real money tables.

My suggestion is play with play money and find out if you really enjoy playing the game. Build up your game before trying real money tables.

very boring to play with fictional money, I prefer to play freeroll with many participants than playing with fictional money.

If I played with fictional money on many occasions but I really am not amused unless I'm playing with my friends, but playing tournaments or online cash tables with fictional money is the most boring thing that can exist ... hahahaha

Actually the online game was created to experience the thrill of winning some rencompeza that ultimately gives you a metal value.

I'm currently playing with fake money because I want to step up first before putting any money into poker. I love poker a lot so I don't get bored quickly ... I understand why people prefer playing with real money but I don't understand why they would stop playing if they had to play with fake money ... I mean it's above all a game

Play money is not good way to learning play. Its better to play small stakes tourneys.

You need some time to play with play money to remember well the combination of poker. Then it will be easier for you to play for real money. If you set yourself the task of raising the number of your chips at the box office to a certain limit, then you will be more interested in playing.

Half the folks just shove, refill, shove, refill.....

A lot more fun to play real money where more people
actually play serious poker....

Be active on cardschat and qualify for the freerolls.
A good opportunity to add some dollars to your bankroll here and there.

if you dont have a lot of money and wish to play serious poker .. try the tiny buy-ins are many for just pennies...
also there are play sites like Replay Poker where its for pretend chips but they run out and need buy some maybe, it makes for more serious play... and I recommend it
freerolls are ok if there isnt a gigantic field and its just an all-in fest

I usually play with play money when i am getting used to a new site or when i am in between games. As for learning to play with play money i don't believe you can as the play style of play money is usually totally different to real money.

Interesting comparison! And in fact the post, I agree with you. These are two completely different games. But, nevertheless, to some extent it was useful for me to play with play money as soon as I became acquainted with online poker.

As a beginner i think you should practice with play money first... Go to global poker their play money tournaments actually have good players and it is exactly like playing for real money with them!!

If you are a novice player, it is useful for you to play with play money for some time. This will give you the opportunity to better remember and then navigate the significance of combinations of poker. It personally helped me. Now I play where money is spinning.

I started in 05. I played play money for 6 months before switching to real money. My brother sent me $10 to get me started. I made over 40k in 3 years from that $10. I don't regret learning with play chips at all.
