I usually play lower stakes/freerolls either way so it not much of a problem... moneywise... It's just the time invested in the game if the game disconnects on later stages when the blinds are so high that your tournament life (or potential winnings) is at risk...
Well if you're having a connection problems quite often I hope there's a mobile App for your poker room and you should order different (3G or etc.) internet on your phone and play these couple of hands from there while you're restarting modem.
Unfortunately sometimes the connection is broken. It could be bad weather, maintenance work or technical failures of communication and that no one is safe! Just remember that this sometimes happens, not only you but also other players, so do not waste your nerves, with this nothing can be done.
I usually play on my laptop. If power is lost battery will easily handle around 3 hours and i can always enable hotspot on my phone and be able to continue in around 10 to 15 seconds. Of course at least with pokerstars you can also directly switch to the mobile application and continue playing.
if it's inside your house: fix it yourself
(double conversion UPS improve routers a lot)
(sufficiently strong wifi signal)
(no mcGyver ethernet cables)
(reinstall the os on computer if the pc becomes unstable)
if it's the wiring between your house and the nearest central: call your ISP
(ISP should check the wiring and fix it)
(changing ISP usually gives no improvement
if it's an overloaded ISP: change ISP
If it happens to someone else on the table: grab their chips as fast as possible
Recently I also have a bad Internet for some reason. Because of this I skip important handouts, and sometimes I can not play the tournament at all. Afternoon, especially when things went wrong.
