My first deposit was 100$ to pokerstars in 2012 and I succesfully lost it in 3-4 days of playnig. For now I play only for money that I win in freerolls and at micro-stakes. Now I do not lose my own money but not win us much that it can changes my life.

My biggest deposit was 200$ for playing cash. It was 4-5 years ago and I lost all my money. I was so fishy player in that moment.

Great topic

And how big is your bankroll now as a result? Did you turn it into more money right away or did you have to deposit multiple times to get into positive bankroll numbers?

Jancianna - What a great idea for a post!

My first deposit was after setting my alarm for freeroll after freeroll when I was in the seventh and eight grade. This was before black friday and I frequenly played on Poker.com as well as fulltiltpoker. I had kept up this grueling schedule even on school nights and ended up making a few decent scores. The site was extrmely generous and had things like the christmas freeroll or halloween freeroll... these would have nearly 10,000 people and the prize pool was around $2500 or $5000 depending. Im pulling these numbers out of my rear end but I remember im pretty close. Well I made my first $100 and immediately took it to the tables - where I lost it in like a $.50/1 or $1/2. What I do remember specifically was CRYING that night because I had never had $100 before and I lost it in a matter of hours.

After licking my battle wounds I do the unthinkable - you guessed it - stole my moms credit card  I was a turd and depo'd $50. I REALLY took my time and didn't touch the money for a few weeks while I kept up racking tiny freeroll wins. I wanted to see if my mom noticed and I wanted to learn more about the game. I was studying and watching videos... reading books. Whatever I could get my hands on.

No bullshit- I worked my way up to playing $10/$20 in a matter of like six months and ended up being one of the largest cash game players on poker.com ( I didnt have nearly as much success on Fulltilt and eventually ended up pouring all my efforts into poker.com.

I remember my first withdrawal was $9800. The check came from some bank in Singapore and I had to explain to my mom what happened.

Madman - I totally feel your pain. It takes some stones to admit when you get thrashed but I was in the same boat roughly 14-15 years ago. If you get a chance take a peek at my response to the thread as a whole. Pretty funny story.

I haven't made deposits yet, I play freerolls

Normally i will deposit $ 30 when i start playing on a new poker site.

Honestly.... I clocked up 3,000,000 in play chips on party poker over the last ten years....

I hadn't played in years and became ill recently so hit the tables out of boredom since December 2018.

I have spent in total on online poker £38. on two platforms PokerStars and 888Poker and now i don't get satisfaction Using Play Money.

Now Chasing all the freebies... still waiting on CC Freeroll Club Application to be reviewed but that will happen any day now...

According to 888Poker Stats Video Link they send out when I Started I was 665th in the UK lol Now I'm averaging 50+ Tournaments with them each week haha I'm still not bankroll Building So Ive Got to Seriously tighten up my game...:D:D;)

Hey Bluffzone - first of all welcome to Cardschat. I see that you just joined in February. This is a great forum with tons of players that are willing to help each other. The administrators do a phenomenal job of answering any questions you have in terms of navigating the site and helping out with access to freerolls.

How long ago was your last deposit? You said that you had deposited over $1,000 at different times. Do you mean you did say like $250 x 4 or did you really keep depositing $1,000 at a time?

You can't call it quits!! Maybe just stick to freerolls for a month or two and do some studying. When you're feeling more confident in your game you could give it another shot?

Looking forward to seeing more of your posts friend.

I made a $30 deposit two weeks ago and am now at $170. I found that only a few types of tournaments are worth playing for me and i do not bad at them. I only play on 888 atm but BCP has some nice freerolls. When i am on a losing streak i go play on low stakes tables and i can usually make back what i have lost.

I think everyone lost their first deposit. My first was $ 50. Raised to cash up to $ 120, and then all merged in one day.

My first deposit was USD100 and I lost it in just one week.

It was the price to pay to learn, today my bankroll is greater than 1K and I usually get enough to pay the internet and some household expenses.:star:

My opinion

Mu first deposit was two hundred dollars. I lost it. I have deposited since then and have had luck with cashing out a couple of times. I treat on-line poker like poker with the buddies on a Friday Night after the work is done. You don't win all the time. Sometimes its your buddies turn to brag at work on Monday. Actually, you don't get bragging rights that often.

My first deposit was $ 20, I did not know of the deposit promotions. Soon I was without any extra bonus awards, how sad!

I havent deposit right now but I plan to do so in a week. I plan to deposit 20 euro on pokerstars, because I want the bonus with a bonuscode. I think its a good deal and than I will play with a very tight bankroll management.

Ouch man I feel your pain. Im currently on my third $100 depo in the past 2 months... starting to think im not cut out for it. OR I really need to up my game and do some more research / play style. One of my buddies who has $1.3M in live tournament winnings recommends for me to spend at least a few hours a week looking over hands that I got beat on or watching streams... listening to podcasts. Just generally immersing yourself in the game and trying to find ways to improve and hone play style.

Thanks again for sharing. Have a great day and best of luck!

First deposit

Yep
One thing is for sure
You need luck too
I just lost a tournament (trip to Vegas) out 68th
Had AQ raised preflop to 5BB
Got called
Flop is 6 A K
Going all in get called with KK
That hurt with 18 away from a seat

My first deposit was around $ 15 which lasted for quite a while.
I managed to grow significantly, but in some relapses, I run more risk, and I end up losing a good part of the bankroll and I can not fill my wallet.

I'll try to be very specific, since it was 7+ years ago and I don't remember the details, but I have a lot of the info stored as emails. I am curious too. Let's see.

I made my first deposit back in 2011, when a nice first deposit promotion appeared:
Cash Prizes Worth $100,000 for First Depositors at PokerStars

Win Your Share of $100,000!

For 20 days in June and July you can play in free-to-enter tournaments and win your share of an incredible six-figure prize pool. The $100,000 First Depositor Freerolls run five times every day, with $1,000 up for grabs in each. It’s open to all PokerStars players who make their first deposit, and it’s a great way to win cash for free!

All you have to do is make your first real money deposit between 00:00 ET on June 8 and 22:00 ET on July 3, using the code ‘100K’, and you’ll get entry to all the Freerolls. Don’t forget, you’re also eligible for PokerStars 100% First Deposit Bonus to $600.

$100,000 Freerolls Schedule

The tournaments take place every day June 14-July 3 at 06:00, 10:00, 14:00, 18:00 & 22:00 (all ET). You can find all of the freerolls in the PokerStars lobby by selecting ‘Tourney’ & ‘Freeroll’.

$100,000 Freerolls Prizes

Every single Freeroll has a $1,000 prize pool which will be shared by the top 20% of finishers. Remember, once you’ve made your deposit you can play as many Freerolls as you like, which means you’ve got five chances to win cash every day!

With this much on offer for new real money players, there’s never been a better time to start playing at the world’s largest pokers site.
It was a really good time to start playing, lol. A hundred freeroll tournaments, each offering $1000 prize pool for the top 20%. Five tournaments per day for 20 days.

Here is my deposit:

Purchase request time: 2011/06/14 04:43 EET
Purchase amount: USD 24.80
Status: APPROVED

This purchase qualifies you to earn $100K First Depositor Freeroll Bonus Bonus of USD 24.80!
You can collect your bonus in USD 10.00 increments for every 170 VPPs earned up to the total bonus amount.

You can make 2 more deposit(s) to qualify for another USD 575.20 (out of a maximum of USD 600.00) for this bonus.
These deposits can only be made until 2011/09/12 04:44 EET.

I had about $300 prepared for poker (half of the maximum 100% deposit bonus of $600). My goal was to make a small deposit first. Just to be able to play the freerolls, and to see how hard it is to clear these 170 VPPs. Then I would make a bigger one within the allowed period of 3 months.

For the freerolls, my strategy was to get consistent cashes. As far as I can find in my emails, these were my wins in them:

(tournament starting time: award for place/participants (%))

2011/06/15 17:00:00 EET $1.85 for 83/1146 (7%)
2011/06/16 05:00:00 EET $2.20 for 82/594 (14%)
2011/06/16 13:00:00 EET $1.00 for 218/1160 (19%)
2011/06/16 17:00:00 EET $0.90 for 248/1440 (17%)
2011/06/18 01:00:00 EET $1.50 for 105/1354 (8%)
2011/06/18 21:00:00 EET $1.60 for 81/1782 (5%)
2011/06/19 05:00:00 EET $1.60 for 139/757 (18%)
2011/06/19 17:00:00 EET $1.30 for 130/1878 (7%)

2011/07/02 13:00:00 EET $1.20 for 138/2057 (7%)
2011/07/03 01:00:00 EET $0.65 for 316/1978 (16%)

2011/07/03 21:00:00 EET $0.36 for 601/3072 (20%)
Summary:
$37.55 from 34 cashes in these freerolls. Well, I neither managed to play in all 100 tournaments, nor I had the ability/luck to go deeper than a top 5% finish, but the small cashes came daily as promised.

IIRC, after the freerolls I went to play limit Texas holdem on the cash tables. By 20th of July my bonus was released:

Congratulations! You have released the final installment of your deposit bonus. Your PokerStars account has been credited in the amount of USD 24.80 for this bonus.

At this point I had about $100 BR, so I thought it was a good time to make the second deposit:
Purchase request time: 2011/07/22 21:44 EET
Purchase amount: USD 288.00
Status: APPROVED

This purchase qualifies you to earn $100K First Depositor Freeroll Bonus Bonus of USD 288.00!
You can collect your bonus in USD 10.00 increments for every 170 VPPs earned up to the total bonus amount.

You can make 1 more deposit(s) to qualify for another USD 287.20 (out of a maximum of USD 600.00) for this bonus.

Considering my negligible poker experience in just some tournaments (not to mention freerolls/playmoney/video games), you can imagine how successful I was, when I jumped straight to the cash tables. I wanted to try so many things like high volume 10+ multi-tabling of limit holdem, PLO, Limit Omaha8, short-handed variations, and too many other things except for NL Holdem, where most of the fish was. Because I needed to earn lots of VPPs in a short amount of time, I couldn't afford to lose time at the micro limits too. Needless to say, I wasn't very successful.

My bankroll management wasn't abysmal, though, because I never went down to zero. I had my big losses and some nice wins too. At some point in the beginning I even had a nice jump in profit, but that peak was temporary. My BR was steadily going down after that.

I also managed to clear my second deposit bonus on the second day of Christmas:
Congratulations! You have released the final installment of your deposit bonus. Your PokerStars account has been credited in the amount of USD 288.00 for this bonus.
Of course, the bonus was given in $10 installments during these 5 months, so by the end of that period it was gone, along with my second deposit.

Next year (2012), my country outlawed the online poker sites. The ISPs banned their domains. I decided to withdraw my money, while I still had access to the PS client. Then I took a rather long break from poker, although PokerStars quickly legalized their business.

My first deposit was $10 on 888 in order to withdraw. I'm thinking of making more deposits on other sites to benefit from First Deposit Bonuses, they seem to be good value!
