Hi, so I've been playing poker for a number of years now and found myself best suited to face to face poker.
I can play tournaments in the pubs and usually either walk away with money of place myself quite high up the leader board. I've played casinos as well and generally make it to the final table and win back my stake plus some. Games with friends is generally good as well as I know their tells and with mix of booze I normally do ok.

I played PKR when it was thing and mainly stuck to sit and go's with the odd tournament or freeroll and now I'm on poker star's. On PKR id say I won as much as I put in with a couple of big deposits.
Poker star's now I've had a withdrawal or $360 in the last 12 months and when I deposit its generally $30-$50 and then I build from that (deposits are very few and far between). i can get my self into double treble figure but find a run of bad luck nearly wipes me out.

The issue is what games to play and what for what stakes? I play the spin and go Max which at $3 and $7 a time usually puts me into double/treble figures but and run of bad luck kills my funds.
Tournaments i do ok in but i only play up to $11 max and it seems like a lot of effort and time to win back my stake.
Cash games are hit and miss as i feel again its a lot of time for any kind of pay off.

I feel playing low value games/tournaments means I'm playing against players who will play out position or call big raises with unplayable hands hitting cards on the flop, or if i bet to push they call fishing hitting something on the turn or river.

any suggestions or do i keep at it?

It is online, as opposed to real face to face. I feel you on it. Personally I would just do maximum 5 dollar games. At the end of the day online poker is a very small % of strategy!!

Its much easier to beat bad players than good players. You just need to learn to fold, when its obvious, you are beat, and not try to bluff a calling station. Loose players dont *always* hit. Feeling that way is just a result of your own entitlement tilt.

As for which stakes to play, I think, you are in the right place already. MTTs with up to 11$ buyin are still reasonably soft, but if you go any higher than that, you will run into many professional players, who have spend years studying and improving their game. And unless you put in the same amount of effort, they are going to eat you for lunch.

An 11$ MTT is already not nearly as soft as a 3,3$ MTT, so there are no easy money to be won online. The competition is very hard, so either be prepared to put in the time and effort in order to compete in mid or high stakes games, or play for fun and be happy, if you win 100$. Its better than losing, and if you spend your time watching Netflix, you dont become a millionaire either.

I think the best games are Hold'em and Omaha. And it's best to play them not online, but face to face. It's much more interesting and enjoyable this way.

Thanks for the feedback guys, i will stick at it with the games I'm playing now in terms of low value tourney's and cash games.

Currently reading and watching any books, videos and blogs to do with poker and game play to see if i can develop my game more. I'm hopeful with the addition of new skills that i can play at tables with professionals and not feel like I've been mugged on the way to the shop.

Any recommendations would be great

Thanks

Keep at it, man. I do have a suggestion for you. When I used to play at the bigger sites it was because of the tournament payouts, more players, no waiting (usually), and so on. I also found it harder to cash because the talent is more prevalent. I've found more success at smaller sites and games other than hold'em. I believe it's because the smaller fields get me closer to the $ quicker, perhaps... Just a thought. GL, man.

I used to play PKR and I actually enjoyed a lot the 3D environment. I think it was brilliant and quite sad it's not around anymore. GG seems the closest to it, if you know of others like PKR, please let me know as what puts me off generally are the poorly designed skins.

Other than that, I would suggest the way of the volume grind if you have the time and want to make a living. Multiple tourneys across multiple platforms and in particular omaha. Low buy ins and a lot of work to build the bankroll and not lose it all in a losing streak in one day (Mick Jagger sang about it in Satisfaction, do the same). I lost mybankroll a couple of times as I felt like I couldn't bother wasting hours for a few cents. Now I'm building it cent by cent.

I play on pokerstars PA and the site is small and very limited. I've had the best luck playing sit and go's for $20 buy in. I do better here than the lower stakes such as $1, $5, and $10. At the lower stakes there are a lot of loose aggressive donks who have little understanding of the game. Only turbo is offered and they keep tossing money around and make it difficult to enter a hand and I will often end up being all in as only a slight favorite. I have not really played the $50 stakes which is the next jump and of course there are more sharks. I'm not keeping enough cash in the client at the moment to play here. Multi-tabling at the $20 stake my WIN rate is about 24%, so this is still very profitable for me.

I really cannot speak for cash games, but I'm sure I would do comparatively better at .25/.50 vs .01/.02. Or maybe due to the deeper stacks I would fare even better long term at the micros.
