Hello people.
I usually play poker online, but I want to start playing live soon. Any tips for making the transition?
Hey there. You mean like tips for table etiquette and such? Try to pay attention to the action at the table other than a personal device. Not that it's rude, well sorta, but it slows down the game and the dealer begins to get pissy along w/other players and it snowballs and sh!t and it's just bs, imo.
Also, if you play tourneys try to make sure you have the correct amount for your BB ante. The dealers have a "thing" about this.
Oh yeah, if you bust out in a re-entry or re-buy/addon please do not go around asking players for $ for one. I swear it, this kid was doing all this "poker math" and shit, trying to make moves and getting caught and then busts w/AJo against KK. He gets up and says he will be right back, then comes back to the table wondering if any of us can put him back in and he'll pay us w/his winnings. I've never seen so many heads turn really slow at once before, including the dealer.
Other than that, being an adult should get you through it. I hope this helps, if even just a little bit. Have a good time and good luck. :D

While playing live it's important to remember that you are actually in a live game, not hidden behind your monitor. People will be observing the way you act, your facial expressions ect. and you should be doing the same. It's time to put on your poker face as live game is way more about that then pure math and odds.
But most of all try to have fun, live game is slower than online play. If you like talking, chat with other players a bit (without giving them tells of course). When you're in the pot focus hard on it.

One of the most difficult things for me was keeping track of how much is in the pot. Online, the screen shows you - which makes bet sizing easy. Live, there is no screen telling you how much is in the pot. You have to keep track!

A lot of the online tells translate to live tells.
Just be patient. It’s not as fast passed.

Hello brother.
For me first as online you have to focus on the table.
It doesn't matter if there are 100, 1000 or 10000 participants. You have to try to be the king of the table.
Do not get distracted, see movements according to the position of your opponents.
Try to discover the recreational players. This is not very difficult, the recreational player in general likes every card he has in his hand and believes it is a winner. So he limps almost every hand hoping God Luck will enlighten them, which it can, but not every hand.
When you bet, do it safely, do not hesitate.
Be aware of when the blinds go up, when you get the SB or BB.
DO NOT clean Your hand must be safe preflop minimum 2.2 to 2.5 BB in open raise.
Live semi pro or pro players know that if a blind is at 3000, the open raise for it is 6600 (2.2 BB) 7500 (2.5 BB) and 9000 (3 BB). This must be very clear. If any player finds out that you are recreational, they usually do it because of the way they bet.
Even if you don't play a hand, watch the hand you don't play. Look at the tips of your opponents. There is always some tip that gives you information for your future game.
Be patient. You will not have too many hands to play, but the ones you play must be maximized.
Except to defend some BB, don't play stupid variants. Your cards must be related to form two pairs, straights, flushes or more. With stupid combinations you can luckily achieve something, but you won't always, sooner or later you will lose.
Be friendly at the table, both with the croupier/dealer and with the rest of the players at the table.
Don't waste a lot of time talking, unless you talk less about poker with someone. Your objective is not to give information, but to gather information from others for your objective.
Well, not much more brother.
Another thing, go rested to play. If possible, do not drink alcohol, it is not your house but a place where you will spend many hours playing.
You must take care.
Greetings brother and success:giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle:

Hi, yes like some others say, be disciplined to stick to your foundation/strategy as it takes time to map out the table and identify the stronger and weaker opponents. Try to see who is playing too loose or too tight and then take advantage of the situation ie if a tight player is over folding in the blinds exploit that weakness with a 3 or 4 bet pre flop when your on the button and every one folds to you. With your big hands build the pot and keep building it with value bets assessing the texture of the table and board of course. So I like to play a few orbits map out the table start identifying player tendencies and player type and then use exploitative tactics to win pots etc. To have a decent win rate you need to play the situation/player as big hands will not come around that often. Good luck

Watch how your opponents play.
If they bet quickly and much they almost certainly have a very strong hand, unless they always have a manic playing style.
If they talk a lot, they are often insecure when they can't speak. Don't let them change your mood. Follow his game if you want, but don't lose your axis or your way of thinking for another. Focus on the hand.
Do not drink alcohol or caffeine unless you are already used to doing so.
Beware of rock players, who tend to play very few hands, as they often have formed hands when they bet.
As play progresses postflop you must adjust your calling range more and more. In other words, your opponents' bluffs are less likely, unless you have information that allows you to infer that some particular villain may be bluffing a lot.
Remember that in live poker the value bets or the folds should be the easiest actions, and the most sophisticated are to wait for the opportune moments to bluff or catch bluffs, based on reads you have on your opponents.
Don't commit to big multi way pot unless you have really strong hand.
Greetings and lucky!

I find it very difficult to maintain a good mind after drinking alcohol

Relax first, there shouldn't be any tension, or at least you shouldn't show it. Be a fun and engaging person and 3-bet as often as you can against recreational players.

There are certain rules when playing live that are not always written down, but the games are governed by the Casino and they expect certain etiquette at the table, like not commenting on hands that you are not involved in, and not folding or acting out of turn, So be fully aware of where the button is, follow the action around the table, and wait until it is your turn to act.
There is nothing worse than Newbies breaking any unwritten rules, and if you do, expect to get Roasted!

I once saw a player fold his cards out of turn in a Tournament, and the dealer had an infringement card he passed to the player, which explained he was on a warning, the next time he folded out of turn he got a second card and he missed a full rotation of the button, on his third misdemeanour at the table he got a final card and missed 2 rotations of the button and the dealer told him if he did it again he would be disqualified from the game.
He still had to post blinds and antes when the rotations happened so it became very expensive and ultimately cost him the game!

It is different in Cash games but there are rules that have to be followed just the same, so just be careful and enjoy the game!

I can recommend you to be friendly at the table and wear earphones, talk with others at the table without giving them information about your game .This makes game softer in the cash games ,it is always more fun to lose v someone who is talking with you instead of someone who has no emoji .

You've received a lot of good information, and I'd like to add a few things to what has been said.

1 - If you have a habit of tapping your hand, fingers, or anything else on the table while thinking don't do it at the table because it will probably be read by the dealer as you checking your bet. It took me about eight tourneys to break the habit and in that time I missed out on quite a few good betting opportunities.

2 - Announce your raises, including the amount if you are putting in more than what it would take to call, when you toss your chips in so that it isn't mistaken for a call.

3 - Announce your calls, especially when putting in more than the previous bet because you don't want to take the chance that it will be mistaken for a raise.

4 - Be friendly and sociable with the other players because you aren't enemies, you are just fellow poker players. :)

5 - Have fun!

watch a video on YouTube how people dress for an online tournament, they wear long sweaters, headphones listen to music and talk a little, you can make yourself the same look so as not to be distracted by people and panic
