There was a moment on poker central when Phil Helmuth was against Annette Obrestad heads up. She got a good hand and put on her sunglasses. Phil was all arrogant and commented how he was going to put on his glasses and made a stupid re-raise. She schooled him and it was awesome.

Personally i don't wear sunglasses at the table often, i like giving fake tells to people who have a basic understanding of tells and eye contact. But sometimes its nice to have them in case of too much lighting

I don't like sunglasses because I feel like my eyes should be used to tell the story I want. I don't know if it always works, but I feel like I play worse with sunglasses. Might be all in my head.

How much does it affect your ability to play against a player wearing sunglasses (dark glasses) at a live table. As for me there are many more ways to read a person other that their eyes and such. What other tells do you see at the tables?

I don't think its going to stop me from getting a read on a player. They might be wearing them to try to intimate you. Of course there will be always someone at the table wearing dark sunglasses, So you just gotta get used to it.

the fact he is wearing glasses tells me he's worried about a tell. Usually, there's something if you watch long enough. I find the glasses are a magnet and cause me to watch a player more than I usually would.

I understand that the sunglasses are meant to hide the dilation of your pupils when you are stressed or excited, which would be a tell....what I do not understand is whether opponents can see my hole cards from the glare off the sunglasses....so, I never wear them.

I think that the points need someone to handle stress is reduced and it is for them as armor that helps them !

Wearing sun glasses at a table says a lot about the player. He or she probably has some weakness that they are trying to hide.

I always have a pair on me when playing live. I don't always wear them though. They seem to come out in the later stages of a tourney. There are some opponents who are definitely better at looking for a read or reaction than others. Often they are the ones to heckle or complain about the glasses the most.

Also later in the tourney I'm more likely to have had a drink or two too many. When I've gone a bit farther than taking the edge off, I tend to loose some of the control over my poker face. Glasses definitely help when this happens.

I totally associate sunglasses with poker armor. As for any one claiming to be able to see your hole card..... shheesh!!! Try it out some time when not in a game. Set it up like an experiment. Make every thing the same as in a real game.
Its nearly impossible if you ask me. I've tried it. I'd be more worried about windows or mirrors behind me.

Wearing glasses for me has absolutely nothing to do with hiding any tells from me. I wear them to prevent others from knowing that I am staring directly at them for many hands in a row early in tournaments looking for tells. I don't want them uncomfortable or trying harder to hide tells. I stopped wearing glasses because they were too dark to see or glasses designed for poker reflected my own eyeballs back at me and were distracting and gave me a headache. I searched long and hard and spent a small fortune on Amazon ordering pair after pair and trashing them when they arrived and were unsuitable. I have now found a pair of safety glasses that look like sunglasses are about ten bucks and are clearer for the wearer than any of the three major brands of designed for poker glasses and I will be wearing them.
When I see someone wearing glasses at the table my assumption is they are a clueless DB. If others make that assumption when they see me I could not care less I can play that image as long as it last :)

There was one time kind of abused the glasses thing a bit. One time after a home game tourney at a neighbors. We were hours into a hours into a cash game. It was close enough I could easily stumble home, so I had gotten more drunk than I should have. Especially while playing cards. Needless to say I was wearing my big old aviator shades. Any how I started to nod off here and there. Kind of half asleep at first. Then fully in and out of it. Some how I kept winning hands though. Real fluky, donkey, suck out luck. I'd wake up just enough to call when some one was like " HEY, it's your turn". I was denying it at first when they were asking if I was sleeping. I was all like " NO, NO, I was just thinking about if I am gonna call". It really pissed every one off royally, and caused a mass cash out ending the game. They all would have been fine with it if I was loosing though. Probably just chuckle to each other as they blinded me out.

Smallfrie , what is a "DB"? From "my assumption is they are a clueless DB."

I can't believe how many posts discussed wearing sunglasses for online poker. lol. Some are obviously satirical jokes. But a few seem to be seriously pondering it.

I don't know about sunglasses but if you are spending hours a day online, an investment in some quality blue blockers designed for online use, maybe BlueShark or Gunnars or someone else that makes real quality blue blockers. I would say that is money well spent.

It affects a little all-in, you do not see the eyes of the opponent but I read your movements and way bet chips. Help very difficult decisions.
