Even after reading this helpful guide, I don't feel ready at all to play live cash game or tournament.
I had only played live in a friendly league.
One thing is clear for me, never I will go play in pub or home game.
When I will be ready for live play, it will be at Montreal Casino.

I really hope I will put this advice to use when I finally transfer from online to live poker. It will take a long time, but I will make sure to read the thread again when the right time will come ;)

A great guide

I’ve played live a number of times, and I still found this guide useful. If everyone follows it, it’ll keep the game moving well and everyone will get more hands.

The most important tips IMO is pay attention (both for etiquette and reading your opponents), state your action (always!), and (a personal one from me...) don’t eat food at the table. You’re handling chips and eating food with hands... ugh...:(

I only played home games, but these are nice tips to understand how a casino game works. The most important for me are the etiquette and live betting parts. Home games are more relaxed and if starts to annoy the other players they will let you know you are acting like an idiot for sure, specially if you are with good friends. The booze aspect is important too, but in home games it's hard to avoid...

Thank you very much for the advice, this time I prefer punctuality. True, many players are late to tournaments, I regret to say that I am also one of them, but I'm learning to be punctual both in tournaments and in life, because punctuality is a virtue, is what makes the person well. As I also enjoyed the commentary of Arrogant. It is true that worsens the person and not be good. regards

I like to play brick-and-mortar poker from time to time, but generally, I am a lazy online player.

The tips are good.

I only disagree with "Avoid the booze".

If a pint or two of beer can turn me from a super-nit into a normal TAG, this is quite OK for me. :)

Also, we must make the difference between people going to play, in order to have fun, and people whose daily "job" is poker.

thank you, very interesting article. for the first time I learned that it is necessary to declare an increased rate, so that the chip is not lost in vain. it was also weird to find out that you can get punished for the fact that other players can complain about me without seeing my big chips. about the use of low-alcohol drinks I have a different opinion., in small doses will not hurt.

Pretty good article for first timers. Got to practice playing live a bit before going to a big event like wsop.

The internet is a wondrous place with loads of information. If you run deep or make a final table in a multi day event I suggest doing home work on your opponents. Pretty easy to find stuff on almost everyone.

good advice as always.
For me it is very important to be rested and with comfortable clothes, also mentally enter the game like a soccer player warms up before playing.
Following this is very important to pay close attention during the game because false moves are very common.

good luck to those who are going to play

Me personally, I actually prefer playing live poker. I tend to be less focused and make more mistakes online. Whether it's coming back just in time to see my pocket Aces get auto-folded or meaning to enter one raise but sending another, online has it downsides. Also the pace of the game is slower in live poker and gives you time to think your decisions through. People also give away more information in live poker. Whether its their strategic antics of talking you into a call or fold, picking up on these patterns can be exciting. Definitely get some live play in from time to time. Its good for your game.

As always great tips! And as usual I find something new for me. For example the information about big chips out front. It`s easy for online player to get penalty during live poker.
So, who goes to WSOP and is new in live poker - read and study this article very carefully!

Yes, really a lot of useful things, I agree. But unfortunately there is no money at the moment to go somewhere (

Excellent advice as all CC articles, but in particular I like these for the variant of the live game, tips on the tournament clock, the observation of our chips and the big piles that lie ahead, the mental notes, there are to be very concentrated so as not to make mistakes.

Useful article. I had a situation when I hurried and lost all the chips. After the person said that he folded, but did not throw away the cards, I showed my cards and after some proceedings he made a stake.

first you must bear in mind that you are going to a live tournament that is a big difference between the online tournaments, you will see many players with any skill and you also have to calm down at the time of a badbeat, go with a positive mind to take your amulet of good Luck and not drink a lot because when you go over the drink you can make many mistakes until you fall on tilt. so my advice is to be clear that you will win and not lose and positive mind

Very helpful article. The one scenario I got caught on was where a short stack re-raised all-in but his chip stack wasn't enough to satisfy the raise of at least one BB rule. This meant that I could not raise it up again--not that I didn't try, though. (oops) Instead, the proper play was to just call the additional amount. (I hope this makes sense.)

What I understand by reading the tips - to make a healthy transition - from online poker to live poker are:
"Planning" the funds needed to pay the tickets of the games that one wishes to play - and additional expenses.
Acceptable behavior in the tables.
And now you need to understand that nothing is automatic, as the websites do. in the live everything is manual or spoken. you need to be very careful to do everything the site automatically does in a clear way.
By doing this, the transition from online poker to live poker will be successful.

No better pleasure to live traveling the world knowing wonderful places
If you are good at poker and always win something, poker itself sponsors your travels. That's because what you spend with hosting feed and pass, can be won in tournaments, but for this you have to at least get to ITM in the tournaments.

I really do not know what I could write about this, I never played live in a serious tournament, just with friends, but it's not the topic for this conversation, so I'll just follow the script written in this trade, maybe I'll learn something if I play live.

Are you allowed to bring notes to a live tournament? If you are, I would print out these tips and read them before I played every hand :)

Seems like there's a lot of things you need to worry about when playing live rather than online. Betting would be the hardest part for me. I would probably verbally declare every bet just to not make any mistakes. Other players would probably get a read on me though.
