Is Covid-19 the end of live Poker as we have known it ??

Why so? We will play in masks, it is even easier to keep emotions in check.

For me it has been a horror show from start to finish.

However, regards the general public, sorry but I don't have faith in people to do the right or safe thing. In almost every area where restrictions of movement have been lifted a number of people have acted as if they have no longer have any concern.

Regarding live poker, I am fairly sure the same scenario will play out. Yes, a certain amount of players will be very cautious but I think the majority will want to just put it all behind them and play normally.

In today's world everything is like reality TV or a soap opera. We have had Covid-19 it was like a disaster movie come to life...and now it is time to move on. They have the attention span of gnats.

My guess would be there will be a cautious reopening of casinos and people will be hesitant to play at first. But if the infection and deaths stay low (the new normal!) then give it a few months and things will be as they were.

Probably have to limit the amount of players at table as well.

It is probably the end, but in 3 years everything will return to normal, it all depends on the human being and his responsibility against the virus, if we all go the same way at some point live poker will return

I don't think that will happen, in case you follow covid for a long time, live poker will adapt to the situation, I think live poker can be adapted without any problem very different from other areas that are more complicated, for that reason adaptation I think that what you mention can't even happen

Once we get an effective vaccine, it will return to normal. Until then, I would expect masks and even cheap latex gloves to be mandatory at tables. Not sure I would play under those circumstances, but I would consider it. Six-max tables might also become the norm for a few years.

I also think it`s "the end" of live poker for many many years...as well for chess tournaments and tons of other similiar stuff. It's depressing!
I read everywhere: go online (especially for chess), but it is not the same!

covid19 is being the end of everything live friend, live poker today is the least of my problems due to this pandemic.

Until a cure for this virus is found, the large conglomerations of people among which are casino games will be restricted.

Even with social distancing (6-max) to a table and a dealer the players are still too close. Now get all those players touching chips and cards over and over and we might as well be sitting in a petrie dish. Add to that the guys who use the washroom and don't wash their hands before returning to the table and I am going to be quite reluctant to play live at a casino until I get my Chlorox injection.

This Covid 19 will see the end of a lot of things that we were used to in the past. There will be no such thing as getting back to "normal"

For me I do not think it will end, then there will be events but with the necessary precautions to play live.

why should the virus end poker? If you talk like that, then we can say that then all sports events on the planet will end! No, I think everything will be fine.

Stick to safe practices and we'll be OK...it will burn itself out....this too shall pass. I mean look at the Black Death and the Spanish Flu...they burnt out eventually...mentally strong and good health to you all !!!!

Obviously not ! In the short time lapse we will discovered one vacine or a treatment ANd the social life and live poker will returned !

At the present difficult time for sure, yes, but when the number of infected will decrease and I will get more and more ill, I think everything will return to normal.
I think that even now you could organize live tournaments, e.g. 3 people at a table within one meter.

No. In my opinion it is necessary to go through this bad phase first, after that everyone will be able to play live poker again with the use of masks and all the other precautions.

No doubt not!
A pandemic is a temporary phenomenon that humanity simply has to go through. I am convinced that an effective vaccine will be developed in the near future.

Covid-19 isn't the end of anything but hopefully political discourse. People will be back to what ever they were doing before this, including live poker.

Perhaps it will make some poker players more aware of not touching their face while playing and so on etc. etc. because it is not hygienic (in general), but otherwise everything will settle back in.

Any disease (except death) is a temporary phenomenon !!! In the end, if it does not work out to create a vaccine in the near future, then in a couple of years, most of us will be ill and earn immunity to this disease !!!

Unibet cancelled all their live open tournaments for this year.
So live poker will be something for late 2020 or 2021.

In view of recent events, the series is very well spent online. It would be nice if the rooms held the WSOP as part of a full line-up, and not just the NLH and PLO events

the tables will not work again even if they want to invent protocols or prevention measures until there is no vaccine

I don't think that covid19 will be the end of online poker but it will cause serious shift in the balance between live and online poker. This crisis showed that big poker series that were considered possible only live can be performed online also which is cheaper for both players and sponsoring poker sites. I expect more and bigger online series to appear in future maybe even some using video conference with players narrowing the gap between live and online experience.

Big casinos in the world though and the poker games held there will definitely recover but it will take some time. Frankly speaking the hygiene in many casinos before this crisis was not spectacular. If in future we have live poker with bigger tables, more space between players and frequent sanitizing of chips, tables and chairs this will only make the game more comfortable. And if vaccine really happens soon in less than year this all will be just bad memory.

In terms of the way that live poker has previously existed, I would say that, yes, it is the end for this era, and live poker will never be the same. I'm talking, specifically, about the handling of poker chips, handling chips without gloves, which has always been really barbaric and unhealthy and should have stopped a long time. If the pandemic has forced live players to wear gloves going forward, that is a positive development.
