I don't play it simply because I don't understand it. I will probably learn to play it sometime, but right now I'm just sticking to hold em.

Re-read the book, "Pot Limit Omaha: Understanding winning play by William Jockusch. Had another go at PL Omaha, full ring. So far playing at low limits, limping in and committing my chips when I have the best of it (nuts or close to it) I have found that there are plenty of players willing to give there money away. I think the key is understanding the strength of you hand possible hand at each turn of the card. When transitioning from NLHE this is particularly difficult, which is why so many players make poor decisions.

Short answer: Omaha games are fishier than NLHE. Ergo, if you learn proper strategy it's easier to rake in the monies (though watch out for the rake, it's killer).

Omaha is a great game ,cant stand hi low though makes little sense that a low hand can beat a high hand ,I wish more sites had more of it,usually very little and to find cash players its even less unfortunately.

Omaha is more complex and harder to learn, gets less publicity, and there is far less strategy out there for the game. All of that adds up to a lot less regs playing the game (like, look around this forum for instance -- like 90% of people here, myself included, primarily play NLHE).

Simply this;

Most folks new to Omaha are coming from HE, typically NLHE. They have yet to grasp the notion that they are dealt 6 HE hand2 (2 card combo's), and each player also has 6 HE hands. At an 8 or 9 seat table this means you are up against 42 or 48 other combo's each hand.

Think about that when you jam AA in any Omaha game. They try really hard to bet folks off their hands when they hold AA. It is almost like neon lights on their foreheads spelling out 'I have AA!'

I prefer O8 myself. Which, it can be argued, is 2x harder than plain Omaha.

:eek::eek::eek:

Brand new Omaha players will always stack it when they forget it is '2 from your hand, and 3 from the board'. Always a fishy giveaway. ;);)

Noted,

I have been playing a few PL Omaha Hi freerolls at FTP lately, it is the Hi/Lo game that throws me.

Omaha can be an easy game or a hard game depending on the type of players. Some games are made tough by the average amount bet. I have been in games where a pot size bet is the average. In those games, you need to have good starting hands and good position, since if you bet in early position you get raised out easily. The family pot games where you don't see a lot of raising until after the flop are the ones where you can afford to draw more and you will get paid off when you hit.

Also I think fish love Omaha because you get a piece of the board every hand. I remember when I was a fish (of the aggrotard monkey variety, which arguably I still am :D) I loved Omaha because I had something I could bet or raise with every hand.

Full Tilts 'Game of the Week' (double FT points) is Omaha 6. Six hole cards each. That sounds like fun. I didn't know that variant existed. Hopefully there are a few freerolls for the game though I can see people shoving just about every hand.

I love playing Omaha Hi/Low and a little less so straight Omaha Hi. If you are the gambling type it is a game with a ton of action, money flying everywhere, and the odds are pretty tight with very few large edges in the game. Not sure if it will get more popular than Holdem, but it can be an exciting game.

Another important notion about Omaha vs NLHE is that you MUST use 2 cards from your hand.

Most important when the flop is trips like 999. If you don't have the case 9 or a pair in hand you will not be winning this hand. Period! If the turn river is AK, and you think your A is then good, you will lose a wad.

Point being that Omaha is NOT just an expanded Holdem.

Omaha H/L is my favorite game. It's what I mostly play in cash games. One thing to have in mind when playing it (either high or H/L) is that almost all Omaha tables are pot limit, and that can be tricky, pots can get really big toward the river.

i also love omaha and O8. they are very fun games to play and simply make HE look boring by comparison. as others have stated, the fish in omaha like to build pots and you cant bet many people out of hands preflop. this is a post flop game and you have to change your hands accordingly. you need a straight or better for omaha hi.

low can be great when you flop the low and have 2 other people in the hand going for the high. you can bet them off at the river or just be super agro. you know you've got half already. also makes it tough for people to get a read on you once you know how to bet the high and low effectively.

This can be a problem though when there are two of you with the nut low and one person with the high. You will only end up with 1/4 of the pot and imo this happens more often than two people going for the high.

A great way to learn omaha is to play mixed tournaments (HORSE, HOSE, 8 Game, and Hold Em/Omaha mix). poker stars has a wide variety of play money MTT's and SNG's for you to get familiar with the rules before you hop into a cash game or tourney.

PL Omaha Hi/Lo is by far my favorite style of poker. So much more action and hand possibilities. I wish more casinos would offer more live omaha
