The big difference between the tournament and the cash game is play after flop.

Tournaments and cash games are very different, tournament you
you have to adapt your style depending on the stage of the tournament, while cash must be grinding. GL

Hi Jayplay916! I assure You, You are not alone such! I yourself gone through this...
Long time I'm played the tournaments and cash: first something won in the tournaments,
further at once go to play in cash, as and You, that more quickly increase my bankroll,
and there started " Roller Coaster "!.. Eventually, when I was losing a more part bankroll,
next come back in the tournaments, again won money and come back to play in cash,
further in the tournaments again, and that continued a long... Until I finally moved
on the tournaments only. And now all OK!
Conclusion a one: if You better playing in the tournaments, and lose in the cash game,
then play only in the tournaments!

I could literally right pages on this but I will try and keep it concise. One of the MAJOR differences is blinds. In a tournament you are forced to change your range, and forced to make decisions over a period of time. In cash games the blinds stay the same so your strategy can effectively stay the same.

Another major difference is the reload option. Of course some tournaments have this option as well. Your strategies are adjusted during a tournament each time the blinds change because all of a sudden even without losing a chip you have less big blinds and are now making decisions based on fewer big blinds.

There is also different calculations for tournaments that are not relevant for cash, such as ICM. There is a lot more variables that go into tournament play. This makes tournaments higher variance than cash games.

However a good cash game player will pick up tournament play faster than a good tournament player will pick up cash games. This is because cash game players already have a wider skill set than tournament players whether they know it or not. One main reason is most cash game players play all three streets of poker and are generally more deep stacked. Also the field will generally overall be easier (softer)

This is very well put. You also have to take in that you are forced to move to different tables in tournaments. These styles and chip stacks are things you are forced to adjust quickly to.

ive played 40 years.... cash games became a grind on me a long time ago... i only until recently liked playing mtt's and honestly anything under 1k gtd is not on my list of enjoyment lol anymore.... why i took a very long time off poker in general.... I am learning plo and plo cash has been fun lately.... basically most people have no clue what they are doing so its funny tricking them at times.... I am a post flop player in general i want to see flops... in tourneys its about taking my time choosing which hands to play and when to play them (position is much more important especially as you get longer into the event... cash games i have to HAVE TO play over 20 % of hands.... if is lower im not making income im stagnant.... plo? on some newer sites i can play 40% so am liking that so far....i learned limit and cash first.... rule of limit cash was any two cards if get in play them cheap.... so that has been how ive played cash primarily is no one way... is some very good cash players i play smaller stakes now so is different but if doing cash if im not in a bunch of pots per hour? i am wasting my time sitting at a table.. just my two cents

I like tournaments , satellites for them , some sngs sometimes ,spins rarelly . Cash games is not what I am good at , I have the feeling I cannot beat the players not even at 2nl , and if it happens to be at a table and start winning for some reason , players abandon the table , they leave at no time . Bad memories , no winnings (some at zoom 9max 5nl in the past only ) , so I prefer more other games rather than cash games , at least for now :)

Hi
Lot of differences in both formats.
Love playing both.
Different energy is needed in each.

Cash games are high on blood rush, heart thumping/pumping faster than normal like a day trip to the amusement park.

Tournies is a more laid back, relaxed feel calm and patient approach more like a week long vacation in a resort:)

Tournaments add a tactical element, since you are not rewarded for winning chips but for outlasting other players, until its down to the final heads-up. The only exception to this is "winner-take-all" event like some Spin n Gos.

The other difference is, that stack sizes in tournaments vary and often get short relative to the blinds. This simplify the game, so in cash games you will face more complicated decisions on the turn and river, which favour the more experienced and disciplined players.

Mtt or cash game.

Mtt or cash game, in poker from time to time I am changing my opinion, today I think it is better to study cash game, because it depends less on luck and more of your mathematical knowledge is technical of the game.
The programming of some poker site software makes the chip player the favorite to win even with weaker hands, especially at pokerstars.
I went all in against 3 players, me with KK vs AA vs JJ vs 87o, the villain with 87o was going all in all the time and was very deep and won with flop 7s7c9d turn 6s river 4s, if you notice much more often the player with more chips usually win All ins with weaker hands.
With KK and 14 blinds I have to go All in has no way to fold.
In cash games there are hardly any in pre flop situations and you can evaluate flop, turn and river.
