Day 12

What will river betting or raising accomplish?

All river bets or raises are fundamentally value bets or bluffs, value bet so worse hands fold, bluff for better hands to fold.
So always ask this questtion, if I bet or raise here, what better hands will fold and, what worse hands will call?

Equity denial bet, getting a worse hand to fold since that hand can get better with more cards (flop, turn and river),

Day 13

From situational prospective Pre-flop shove or fold

open-shove, less than 15bb effective stack, with ante and less than 10bb effective stack without ante;

shoving over a single raise, less than 25bb effective stack with ante and less than 20bb without ante;

shoving in all other spots when there is 25% or more of the effective stack in the middle, especially preflop;

modifying guidelines when you have a reliable read on the opponent(s) or you exploiting premium hand;

when you only have shoving range in any given spot, you are maximizing your fold equity by playing that hand.

Internet Connection

Katie just made a very important point.

Reliable internet connection is a must, when you're playing online.

ICM means independent chip model.

Software, using algorithm, to tell the prize pool percentage how much equity each individual chip stack has.

Gain equity by letting somebody else bust another player.

Can give specific ranges to go all-in Preflop.

Day 15

Table Selection
It is very important, who should you play against to win, or if you're playing for fun to minimize your loss lol.

There are several different type of online poker games.
Table games with real money or playing money.
Tournaments with little or more in stake, tickets from different invitations, freerolls, how many players are per table, shorter or longer tournaments, Poker Knock-Out tournaments or how many ReEntries are, are Adds-On allowed.

Sit and Go Head Ups or Multi Tables and anything in between.

According to my midterms more studying required.

I Am Very Impressed By How You Are Sticking With This Thread!

Finish It Off! and then ...

Keep running back through it, until you feel it is redundant...

You will catch things the 2nd and 3rd time through that you missed the first time...

You are well on your way to being a Winning Poker Player, IMHO...

Best of Luck!

For me, the school of poker is films about poker, but unfortunately there are not so many of them, as well as playing in small blind tournaments.

@sorethumb thanks for posting your progress, it's interesting to see.

Question: what do you think about the way information is taught in the 30-day poker course? Do you think it's too fast/slow, or gets complicated too quickly/not quickly enough? Are there things you would have expected to have learned by now, or does it feel like a natural way to learn this game?

Also, do they test you while you are learning? I saw you mention 'midterms' - was that just a joke, or does the course give you ways to test what you have learned? I find it's helpful to take quizzes and things to see if I remember what I am learning.

Thank you guys for the support and posting. I think AAs hold up in the right situations lol. This poker school shines light on use of technology to help online poker games. The course let you take it at your speed and you can rewind or pass forward. Examples and Quizzes provided within each course and day 15 is midterm quizzes. It reminded me to go back and spend more time with each concepts.

There are quiz questions in most lessons and in addition to the mid-term there's an hour long final in the last lesson.

Day 16

Pot control and hand planning

The more you play the better you'll get answering betting questions.
Betting depends on positions, opponents and Pre-Flop action;
Plan the hand, pay attention to the streets and if you have to change your plan accordingly.
Pot Control is the process that limiting the bets in the pot by checking.
Sharpen your key skills like handling raises or not matchy cards.
Bet early on coordinated flops and bet later in the hand on dry flops.

Day 17

Turn and River
Plan it out in advance.

Turn betting rule, when you bet at the flop and you're not sure to bet or not at the turn, then choose betting the turn too.
Draws don't have showdown value, the more cards are out the less chance you have to connect.

At the river busted draws call for betting.
Bluff catching mode means call on bets.
Best hand value betting a must.
Bluff at the river, when no showdown value or you can make the others think you have the best hand or the opponent is capable folding and not a maniac.

Day 18

Logic and Hand Reading

Hand reading (secrets of the poker magicians) is the process putting your opponents on a range based on your knowledge of his/her tendencies and what he/she's done so far in the hand.
Ask questions about the opponent's betting pattern from Pre-Flop, and overall tendencies.

Very fast call usually means strong hand, like draws.
Predictions can be false since there is a human factor of unpredictability, informed decision and not an exact sience.

Day 19

Playing the Small Blind
Good rule of thumb to raise 77+, ATo+, A8s+, KJo+, QJs+
Against Big Blind, everybody else folded so play all hands since chances are at 50% to win.
Against a Maniac, concentrate on the hand, and fold below average hands.
Against a tight or weak player, raise more.
Against a good Regular, play unpredictable.

:D

Discrepancy, the book talkes about small blind is being the worst position after the flop and the first day of this course states, that it has the relative best position after the flop.

Day 20

Variance and bankroll management
Statistics you can use:
ROI: Return On Investment = percent profit on one game
and
ITM: In The Money = percent of tournaments you cash.

SWINGS ARE INEVITABLE.
Limit the downswings
to recognize it ASAP,
by moving down and practicing more,
look at payout structure,
and understand that you win on the long run., therefore you need to calculate how many buys-in to be in your bankroll.

Day 21

Tracking software
HUD= Heads Up Display
Know your opponent, most important statistics about results:
Number of hands
VPIP= Voluntarily Put In Pot (10%=very tight, 10-14%=tight, 15-20%=good, 21-29%=loose, 30-49%=very loose, 50%=complete maniac)
PFR= Pre-Flop Raise
More hands you have on your opponent the better the result is.

Day 22

Playing unpredictable
GTO=Game Theory Optimal

Different opponents different strategy.

Blockers like naked ace bluff in Omaha, bluffing the river, bluff-catch the river.
Flatcall cards (call and play) are like ATs, 88, KJs.

Occasional light 3-bets with post flop profitability or with blockers.

Mix in different strength hands in your game.

Day 23

Short-Handed and Heads-up play,

Less players more read on your moves by opponents.

For a given position play same hands at the full ring table and 6-max table, tight.

Players need to open up their game to succeed at short-handed play.

Play non junk hand from the button or play aggressively and shove from the big blind preflop in a heads up game, and fold showdown value hand only IF it's beaten.

Very good keep learning position is key but it's not the end all be all, cards matter more and if you can learn to bluff in good spots with or without position you'll do more for your game than just playing position all the time

Day 24

The underrated mental game.

Bring your A game.

Stay focused.

Verbalize your thought process.

When in tilt mode, play tighter.

End the session.

Take a break.

Study and regroup.

Limiting losses is just as good as increasing wins.
