You need a strategy with every hand that you play regardless of where its played. Whether at a cash game, freeroll, playchip, wsop, your local casino, made up scenarios to play out, wherever.

If you're blindly playing and you don't know starting hands or anything then you won't improve.

And it has to be more sophisticated then play every hand, bet the flop, put pressure on everyone by playing bingo aggressive donk poker. That nonsense might work in the short term with calling stations and clueless weak players but you'll start wondering why you can win a tournament but you're constantly losing all the time in all the other tourns.

First off you should learn calling and opening ranges from each position then you should start playing otherwise it's a roulette

I think it's very possible to learn whilst playing freerolls , poker is poker after all , and it's good to be able to FT or win freerolls, all formats have some themes and ideas, whether it be deep stacked, slow blinds, fast blinds, shallow stacked, turbos.. all of them need to be handled and adjusted to, and as has been noted, after say the 1st 30mins or so, all the bingo players will be gone , and if we can't beat bingo players ... who can we beat :p .
play around the bubble and stages approaching the bubble,FT and other dynamics are pretty much the same in freerolls as other paid mtt imo .
good poker and see you at the tables.

I play freerolls to build bankroll. Very few freerolls are good to work on your game.

I used to think playing freerolls was good practice and that I would get better, but the problem with freerolls is the player pool is so wide ranging. You never know what you are up against. You have players that don't understand real poker and will play any 2 cards any way up to good players that know what they are doing and play real poker.

The only thing freerolls are good for are time killers and to try and build your bankroll.

And the only exception to that is the Cardschat Freerolls. Those ones you can actually play real poker to get better but not the ones that are open to all players but the silver and platinum level ones are great for playing to get better.

It is my thought that the Cards Chat Free-rolls will be an excellent place to learn.

As for the majority of other free-rolls what you will be learning is exactly that……How to Play Free-rolls….I don’t really believe they help you to learn very much on how to play paid MMT’s. Playing free-rolls is its own style of play in my humble opinion.

The best way would be to play micro stake MMT’s and even they may be similar to the free-rolls, but a person has to start learning somewhere, so play an learn all that you can where you can :). Most of all have fun out there no matter what and where you play!!

Thats how I learned. Allows you to get familiar with the flow of the game and it very rewarding to win without a buy-in

You can experiment some things by playing freerolls, but at the end you need to play some real money poker. Even if that means starting from the very bottom stakes, 2NL zoom for example.

I have earned $ 1000 from a freeroll.
Freeroll is very good in terms of learning and profit.

I think you can learn something from playing freeroll and it's also a good place to start building your bankroll. Although there are some differences between them, you need to adjust your play when playing buy-in tournaments.

No matter how much you study poker, no one has canceled bad beats and lucky calls anyway. The only thing that is invariable in poker is to adapt to the style of the opponent will bring victory.

But seriously, any experience is always experience. Even playing freerolls and taking the game seriously, you always get better.:)

You can. There are not as many terrible players as you might expect in Platinum freerolls, since it requires determination to earn and keep Platinum status and get to the best freerolls on schedule, but it is still the best place to learn to take advantage of bad play.

Freerolls will not help you develop your game in any way. Freerolls are a completely different type of game. Here it is permissible to play with a bad card, which, on the contrary, will spoil your strategy.

Yes! I believe this is the best way to PRACTICE those type of games with no worry of losing any money. Depending on how you play, when it comes to real money I would take a different approach moving into low stakes even tho some players play the same no matter what level you play at lol

As stated in some previous posts, I reckon freerolls gives one experience that should not be overlooked. However, the level of playing depends on the freeroll tournament and the players involved and many times is very different to that of real money buy-in tournaments.

So IMO, I think (some) freerolls might better one’s poker skills to some extent, but when the stakes become bigger, then the action gets more real and that is the place one wants to be in terms of real learning.
