Kyle, I said I can't afford the bad beats. I never said that I couldn't eventually come out ahead. I just don't have the money to afford the big downward swing. You seem rather defensive - how come? I joined this site to help improve my game. At least I'm honest about my shortcomings. Let's face it, this site is full of players who would like us to believe that they are the second coming of Phil Hellmuth!

I'm not defensive. I'm *offensive*. I like helping people. People come to this site constantly wondering why they are losing money at poker, and they are generally in denial. By being on the offense, by not letting them sit in their own misconceptions, I may be offending many, but I'm helping the few who will listen.

Looking at the poker site names you've listed in your profile and scanning around the various poker tracking sites, you've lost at least $400 online at STT, MTT and cash games. In this thread, you have stated one of the most common misconceptions that losing players have about poker: That it's hard to win when opponents play bad cards. Combine those two facts, and I think it's very hard not to conclude that you are not the type of player who can recover from bad beats, because you aren't winning money without them either.

Overcoming our own ego and cognitive biases (google "illusory superiority," for example) is one of the most important steps in becoming a winning poker player. I'm helping you see your game for what it is, which isn't easy to do from an outsiders' perspective, so you can transform it into something better.

There came a point for me when I stopped blaming rigged software or donkeys.

It is what it is...

Phil Hellmuth? Do you think we're that annoying?

And besides I don't see the prob. Just move down, and if you can't afford a BR to play at the micros I pity how broke you are.

Yes Kyle, I agree that you are offensive. I must really get under your skin for some reason. I play free rolls. I may go back to playing for money one day, not sure. I won't fund any accounts though, so it might take a while. Have you ever been in a tourney that was an all-in-athon? Of course you have, and sooner or later you have to also be all-in, if only to call. So, you have to actually play down to your competition, going all-in when maybe you would prefer not to. I think it's possible to have the same experience in ring games. If you play smart poker but everyone else is playing loose as hell, you could suffer a bad beat, or many, before you cash in. This is my only point. It's frustrating and I wanted to hear how other people handle it. Instead, everyone used it as an excuse to tell me how great they are at poker. How does that help me?

You aren't getting under my skin even a little. :) You are wrong, and I don't mind explaining to you why you are wrong all day long. You may, or may not, listen. It's all cool with me.

You've also changed your story slightly.

Now you are saying you find it frustrating to lose with your good hand to loose players, and you want to know how other people handle it. I think it's silly to get frustrated, but some good players do, so that's a perfectly fine thing to ask.

Originally you said "My better hand (sometimes much better) does not hold up often enough to be profitable." Believing your good hands don't hold up enough to be profitable is *not* the same thing as getting frustrated when your good hands sometimes lose.

OP - Google bankroll management. In cash games I hear 8BB/100 is excellent. With your BR, you've got 25 Buy-Ins at .01/.02... So if you can maintain 8/100 at four tables and they all play 100 hands an hour, you're looking at 16*4=$.64 an hour. Anything goes at the micros though.
