General Rules:
**First: Do Not Play Out Of Position!
**Second: Patience, Patience, Patience!
**Third: Do Not play when you are tired, drunk or on tilt!

Rules for "Limit Holdem Tables" Ring Games only:
BLUFFING**at low limit "Limit tables" bluffing is very rare..if someone is betting like he has
a better hand than you ..."he does"
FLOP**If the flop did not improve your hand or give you a damn good draw...fold! (even if the flop
is rags and you are holding AK suited-Never pay to see turn just because you have great overcards.)
LOW PAIR**low pair in the hole..No flop-Drop!
HOLE CARDS**Do not fall in love with your hole cards(ie: you've got QQ in the hole the flop comes
AJJ-Fold unless you can stay for free!)
INSIDE STRAIGHT**Never pay to see the turn or river with inside straight
HEAVY BETTING**if there is a straight showing on the board with heavy betting and you don't have
the nut straight or you are still on a draw for the nut straight...fold!! Any time there is heavy betting,
take a close look at the board and see how your hand would hold up to all possible hands showing.

Some fairly sound principles you follow there.

Must admit its what I try and stick to, but every so often I come unstuck.

I believe that this is what is meant when people talk about ABC poker, In micros' I think this is the most profitable way to play. It is not easy if you like action HaHa, be prepared to fold, fold and fold again. If you ever want to move up in stakes you do need to learn this style!! IMO that is

Thanks for sharing! These are the golden rules for the micros-mid stakes!took me many months to understand them by myself and not with the easy way!! Just play straightforward and most of the times you will get itm and sometimes you gonna make a final table. :)

Good rules to go by.

If I may add one...don't overvalue my hand with a call on a big bet. A bad habit that I need a 12 step program to overcome!

Very useful advice not only for beginners.
This cheat sheet should be kept in the pocket.

My list is as follows:
Do not sit at the table if a bad mood or not enough sleep!

Stop playing if you started to play a lot and go on tilt!

Adjust only to win!

Never give up, even if you have a very small stack!:)
Good luck for all!

Pretty basic and pretty useful. 12 years later they still sounds on place. I love reading poker books, but sometimes the mix of advises inside is too much info. I like the third and the second advice :) Position is also very valuable.

As I see everybody is adding an advice, here is mine:
If you see that this is not your day, you are taking bad decisions or being hit by bad beat after bad beat, take a break. Don't play that day! There always will be tomorrow.

Sorry to say I don't agree 100%, lets analyze the first of the recom:

Do not play out of Position: It depends if you get a nice hand and everybody folds before you? I had pay UTG and won! :deal:

Not playing out of position (unless short stacked or with a monster) has probably made the single biggest improvement to my game.

I used to limp into pots from early position and wonder why my stack was dwindling as well. That's another definite no-no. Limping in general is usually a poor idea.
