Making money online poker is not as easy as it seems. You constantly need to improve your skills, choose the most profitable games and the best time. Tilt can be fatal and turn a winning player into a losing player simply because emotions prevent him from making rational decisions. I think to make the game a little profitable, to tables 4 to 8 hours a day, every day and to play at least 2000 hands. on this capable not many. as for me, I won almost nothing in a few years, except for the withdrawal of several dozen bucks. the real earnings can only bring the freerolls, and that if you manage to get to the prizes. but there are always other opinions on this matter. personally, I can't make poker for a living.

When I am looking at my results since beginning of 2018, it appears my winnings from all the BI games, freerols and special events are more then $240. So it makes about $60 per month, but these are only winnings, though :(
When it is matter of the size of profit, it is a different story! I am actively stacking promising players, I did recently start my own stake, I do not let any winnings sleeping (if that is the right word, hehe). If I am not capable to run the current BR myself - I just choose what is on offer within the Poker Staking thread. And I am satisfied so far, Some stakes are not successful, and some are really nice to take part of it :top:

But I shall back to the topic! I am recreational player, I know my capabilities and do not jump onto higher limits and games easily. From time to time, I am trying something new, just to check my current position and skills. I will continue in that manner until I find my ideal spot to try a deep run and big win!
Otherwise, I am continuing to win some little from online poker and investing these earnings to practice myself and find a way for some opportunities :bebored:

intresting article and really this question is hard to be answered .We all started with higher expectations on poker but how much can you win its about how much you have study ,how much time and money you can give on the game and many other factors .

greetings to all, my opinion can win a lot of money in poker, of course if you have a good discipline and project in the game and in which tournaments you will dedicate more ... the first rule is to protect the bankroll and start climbing of levels, but a month you can earn about 300 dollars playing constantly

As you said, it depends. But for me it depends on the type of tournaments or tables and stacks you are playing, how good your mood is at the moment, and how great luck is going to be with you all the way haha. The most I have win is about 25 USD on freeroll tournaments at poker stars. Also I think you should be really really rested, cause a big tournament for a lot of money can required you to be sitted for more than 2 days :D

As Dakota said, it's definitely a lot less than what you expect in the beginning. I see poker more as investing. ROI is of course variable to skill and variance, but when you have a steady ROI you will accumulate wealth. The more wealth you have to put in the game, as long as your ROI stays the same you will make more $$.

Great article, I didn't see who the author is, maybe I missed it. You hear stories of kids who did a $25 deposit and turned it into a million. That would be nice.

As usual outstanding article, thank you very much!
As for me I can make money from playing poker (but only micro limits and the most part of my profit goes from freerolls).
The main hindrance for me now is lack of time. I can not grind and develop my skill...

Reading that article is actually relief. It's a boost of confidence to see that even high profile poker players struggle with the same droughts we all do. Granted, I'm not comparing myself to these pros or anything but it's more of a reinforcement in my confidence knowing that whatever fixes need to be made to my game can also be applied to anybody, even pros like gus hansen. And seeing that Daniel negreanu only cashed in 11 of 51 tournaments, 2013 at least, says to me to not to lose faith after a drought or two

I have made money with olnine poker, I never made a deposit so I never lost money.
At the moment I play free tournaments, and some low tournaments, I hope to make a good bank and win a few dollars, good luck to everyone at the tables.

In regards to the OP's link to the CC article on making money in poker, I'd recommend changing the part about +5bb/100 being considered "winning/making money" to "anything over 0bb/100 after rake."

I read a post on another site, probably blackrain79 , about how we should be considered a winning player if we're making positive bb/100 after rake, so really anything above 0 is something to be happy about and also show over larger samples we are a winning player.

Plus from a pure motivational perspective with a dose of realistic expectations, it can be helpful to know that most players are losing bb/100 players not winning bb/100 players. Setting the bar at+5bb/100 might make players give up or think they aren't a winner unless they hit that win rate when in reality you're already doing better than the vast majority of players if you're even making just 1-2bb/100 win rates!

Sets motivation to grind and feel good about winning while also bringing people back down to reality that sure some run good and crush at high bb/100 but it's ok and still winning if you "only" earn a small bb/100!

Sure +5bb/100 is certainly achievable but realistically anything over 0bb/100 is winning. How many times do we see someone come into a forum going "I'm making $40 an hour at live 1/2 , I've been playing 3 hours every week for the past 6 months, I'm going pro!" or on the other end "I'm only making $1.00 an hour playing $5NL what am I doing wrong, I see others making more?!" because they think that either they're winning on skill (they're not on that small sample alone) or not winning enough (others make so much more!) and don't have a realistic expectation or understanding of what's considering beating the game at a given stake.

I've personally have made tens of dollars from free rolls. My biggest cash thus far in live play is $2500. Not bad for a bad player.

I remember being in Las Vegas at the same time with my parents before the poker boom. The traditional game was 7 card stud. There were no waiting lists and you could just take any empty seat at any table. My dad would troll the tables looking for the weakest players. I found this quite strange. These days, you are placed through a waiting list at the next available table, where you might buy in the max for the table and still have a quarter of the chips of most others at the table. This leaves you vulnerable and subject to table bullying. If you don't hit a great hand early, you can get bled dry by the other players. So, in short, your table can have a large factor in whether or not you can make any money. Since I am usually on vacation when I play live, I do not expect to win money...I hope to last long enough to get some entertainment value.

I still play small tournaments so I can not make some big money, the biggest money that I won $ 450, but after that I relaxed and I did not track tickets at other tournaments, so I lost the money, the next time, if I It will be, I have to play carefully, earn some money, so you think you have millions and you are the strongest player, but it's not like that and you need to drop the ball to the ground.

Interesting article. For me personally I have a full time job and poker is for fun plus a chance to make a little extra money.
I have never sat down and actually made a profit goal for the year. I think that would be an interesting thing to do.
My goal is to make about $10,000 profit this year throught various freerolls and cash game action. I only play games I know I can beat.
Also that Hansen graph looks so painful everytime I see it

I'm basically a freeroll player ... I've played some big tournaments with tickets that I won here in CardsChat .... I'm going to try something on the XL Inferno series at 888poker
but being profitable in poker is very difficult

Well, in my case, I'm a realist and my game has been dedicated to the cash, I have my own strategy with cosiness and patience and I have achieved positive results in my game. In the case of Negreanu, it is interesting his year in 2013 and the case of the Gus hansen's fall is what we would try to avoid. I have many friends who believe that it is a stroke of luck or that they will become rich, but the key is perseverance and dedication to improve, the results will come.

I try to play only freerolls and from them to build my bankroll. And so I try to play only those tournaments with a small buy-in and satellites. And also there was in me the experience that with this tactic my win was $ 300

I guess it depends on what buy-ins/levels you play plus the amount of time and number of games you play.

You can also try bypassing the cash games and tournaments all together and play special sit and gos like "Spin and Gos" or "Blasts" to increase your bankroll in minutes rather than hours/days. With even a small bankroll/buy-in, you could hit a huge jackpot with these types of games. Of course you'll need a lot of luck.

I'm sure there are people who grind these jackpot SnGs. It would be interesting to see their graphs.

Before thinking about winning, think about whether you want this money. After all, your big win, mean big losers for other people. I understand that everything here is voluntary, but ...

Seriously. Any amount is possible but you have to put some in first. Starting from Freerolls is a hard slog but still possible.
