Free rolls are and can be good to learn from and you can make a starting stake for bigger and better games. There are several places to find free rolls that can help you build a bank acct for bigger games. I started this way and was able to turn freeroll winnings into 4000 dollars in 2006.

Free-rolls

When I first started, freerolls were a must...just to see if I could play online. Then, after switching over to real-money games I realized I didn't know crap based on my success in freerolls! Now I only go back to them if they are a game I had to qualify (win) my way into...or....big enough prize pool to make it worth my while! That's just me...:)

i read the freeroll strategy guide and won the first freeroll I entered when i joined sportsbook for 50 gold coins! i think freerolls are worth it. just play the same as you would in a high stakes mtt and take the free money!

I find it much more challenging to "win" free money and try to grow it.

Me too. Thats what i think anyway. I got like 400mil play money on tilt that i could sell for nearly 2k but id rather not jsut yet and try and build a bankroll started at only freerolls.

There would be an awesome sense of accomplishment if u did this and ir ekon it would be worth it.

And no, freerolls wont ruin your poker play unless you play extremely badly and take that attitude into a MTT.

Good luck and keep freerolling!

freerolls are a good for beginners to achieve a bankroll, when you reach a certain level or bankroll, they should be left behind

a mate of mine started at Bwin at the freerolls, won his seat to wsop 2008, and cashed there for over 35k,

i myself also got to the same event via a freeroll

It all depends on the freeroll. For most of them it's not worth it. But, I think if someone's just starting it's best to play in freerolls/expensive play money SNGs. It'll show you if you can even play...

I have tried to take them seriously but I still get sucked into getting knocked out by a guy with 9-2 suited when I have kQ with the Q being paired on the board :(

stick to your TAG game, but free rolls are a good way to learn to beat bad players, alot of these same players play in micro limit, so you can learn to exploit these people for free. Don't play any bull, and when you enter a pot, hold something strong, be careful wit AT-JT in these games, and try your best to isolate. Vary your raises, and look for stack buster hands. sometimes people cant let AK go on a completely low flop. Be aware though, you can open your hand range in free rolls alot too, mostly in the begining though, as the tournament gets deeper, even those lunies start to play a little tighter. Just learn from them, try things out, and do them when you have had a bad or good streak, learn the differences in aggresion and free rolls are the best place to learn how to exploit very aggresive people. amateurs don't like to be pushed around so if you can get that paradigm shift in them when you have a good hand, you can gain alot of ground. try to be conservitive too, because alot of people are in there to dic* around and are ready to gamble so watch your vpip. Bottom line: it's not a waste of time, you can learn alot, the only thing you have to value is your time, and that is up to you, so if you don't care spending 3 or 4 hours on a free roll, fine, but atleast take the time and learn from the experience. Poker is a game of misdirection, so stick to a TAG game but learn to mix it up. Good luck!

It's up to you. If you are learning the game - then it's probably worth it. A free way to learn to beat bad players, earn free money (albeit small amounts), great and cheap way to try out new styles and many other benefits already listed here.

If you have real money to play with and feel comfortable about your game then maybe it's time for a switch to real money games.

I'm a new member to CC, and I'm still learning.

I've only been playing online for less than a month, but I do have experience playing live $5-10 LHE and $1-2 NLHE in LV and Toronto.

I've been using freerolls to learn how the online MTT and SNGs work, and to adapt my game to these formats.

Thus far this month I've won about $15 on FTP, so this give me unifinite ROI!!

Really though, the value of FRs is to learn how betting patterns work, test theories, and generally get used to the different nature of online poker. The other thing to learn is the regularity of suckouts and bad beats, and to not let it affect your play.

My plan for my huge free BR is to play in the FTP Daily Dollar and the $1.10 SNGs to see where it takes me.

GL at the FRs, but try to learn from them.

Another point, the FTP daily US FR starting at 9:05pm seems to be much better than the regular FRs. The play is typically better, and the payout is better than the others. I've been playing this in conjunction with the FTP Daily Dollar, and the play is pretty similar.

Freerolls are Great!!!!!

Some freerolls can be great if you dont have alot of money or if you have nothing else to do. The One thing I do find out about freerolls is that noone really cares about hands ever so if you can play and dodge some bullets it could be worth it. I won a freeroll for 125 B4 played thru 1500 people was pretty fun...... Good Luck On The Felt!!!!!;)

I've got more than a few hours invested in the FT 2700 player freerolls. Things I've learned:

1) Patience.

2) How to lay down a big hand.

3) How to survive on the bubble.

4) Short stack play. Because tight players are always short stacked in a freeroll.

I think that you probably can't become a great player in the freerolls, but I think you become a competent one.

Why not play the free rolls......so that you can practice and hone your skills....and also play in a low buy in tournament or sng at the same time?? =) Then your time is well spent....if you are ripping apart the free rolls....(cashing in 3/5) then you will also be ripping apart the sng tables. =)

Free rolls are fun! =) Get a huge stack at the beginning, maintain, when the blinds get big again or when the action is picking up at the table, get in on some pots, triple up and sit around....they are harmless, imo.

I will go out on a limb and say that they are worth it all of the time.

Your poker career should not be determined by money won or lost. Yes, it is an important aspect of your poker career, but it is not the only aspect.

I use freerolls for 2 reasons.

1) Building a bankroll
2) Training purposes

Obviously, it can be difficult to us freerolls to build a br. But, it can be done. I tend to use freerolls for training purposes, mostly to train myself to identify adventaguous situations and patience.

If you go into a freeroll with no purpose other than to play, then yes it can be dangerous, as you see ridiculous propositions pay off and begin to figure that it can happen at all tables. If you go in with a goal and purpose in mind, I find them extremely beneficial.`

I say it like this, for me they are a waste of time and that's exactly why I play them! PS only allows you to play 1 a day and this sucks but I have been trying for 2 days to get on one on FT and it is impossible so I'm not going to waste a lot of time. I feel the players on there have no idea how to play and most of the time luck will win but then again if I was the best I wouldn't be wasting time on freerolls would I. I also think that they are good for teaching you about patience because these games take forever.
