AQ is a good hand not a great hand. It will win against some hands, but is weak against AK.

Every starting hand can lose you money.

But I understand your question. AQ is tricky because of what you mentioned. If someone had AK, most would reraise preflop. Unless they’re sneaky.

You can win with any hand and lose with any hand. Better question to ask yourself how often you win, or lose, with a particular hand.

Is a good hand but depending on the position at the table and the number of previous bets can be quite risky.

You have to take ranges into consideration when playing AQ. On a KQ2 flop you have to consider if they have KQ, 22-TT and a lot of Kx Qx hands in their range.

Also if you have history on a opponent how sticky are they with bottom pair. Do they only call on the flop with top pair?

Well, here's an example: a tournament at $ 109. stacks around 100bb. from the middle position tight player makes a bet 2.5 bb. I'm on the BB AQ call. flop AQ5 rainbow, I check. he puts 1/3 of the pot, I reraise x2.6, he call. opens K. I put about 1/2 of the bank, he's all in. Most likely there was the same AK from which I started to get on the flop. I'm folding.

Hi everyone. NLHE 6 Max ZOOM cash game on PokerStars.
Can AQ lose you money by not having the best kicker?
For example the A flops and you don't have K kicker, only Q kicker and opponent has AK.
Or even worse when the Q flops and opponent has KK.
And what do you do with AQ when the flop is KQ2?

After a couple thousand hours of playing poker you will define you relationship with the AQ and all the other pocket couples you will get. She may turn out to be your best girl. She could turn out to be the mother in law from hell. It will all come clear with experience.

Yesterday, ME: AQ flop A K 6 7 turn 9 river 2
final board: AK672
Opponent has AK
I lose, he has 2 pair, Aces and Kings

Today, in tourney, I am blinded all, but I have AQ(off)
final board, K9453
Opponent has QK, I lose to his KK

Eventually AQ will be a hero for us, have faith.

AQ suited or pff

KQ2 a flop bet I keep C but maybe I did not insist more on the turn there really can not stress more but this board favors another J10 than even an AK but I still venture one CBET
