A good proposal is to make money with poker. But it is for experienced players who know how to play from so much they have lost. I do not believe that poker can be a way to survive, imagine giving your life to luck. Very hard to do that.

Dont forget about the fact that Daniel is playing some of the biggest possible stakes on this earth, except some insane private games. On that level, there are people, who are WAY BETTER than negreanu. Im not saying that he is bad or anything, but nowadays so many GTO players play those stakes that in my eyes, he doesnt have the edge anymore. He still can make money though :) But the super high stakes are infested with geniuses who win on a few percent edge over the others.

If you track his televised poker cash games, he was loosing or breakeven. He is mostly a torunament player and those palyers can have massive swings

So I just read the article on cardschat about how Daniel Negreanu lost over 80 grand last year despite winnings of over 2 million. His buy ins were more than his winnings. It got me thinking can anyone really make money playing poker? I mean if Negreanu is loosing $ how do us mere mortals have any chance? Ha Ha. Maybe there are just so many good players now and luck plays such a big hand it is impossible to make money even if you are as talented as Daniel. Thoughts?

He made an $8.7m profit over 5 years, he’s still doing ok http://fullcontactpoker.com/year-end-results/

Thanks for your comments. :) Yes Daniel has sponsorships and made money from other poker related things. I'd be interested to know if anyone knows any facts about how much any of the top poker players have made as a profit (winnings - losses) purely from playing poker in the last 3- 5 years?

Doug Polk did a YouTube video on this, worth a watch https://youtu.be/xujnD-fcA24

I should have said he had a net profit of minimum 2 million the year before.

Of course you can. You can gradually raise the buy-in and switch to more expensive limits. But it should be borne in mind that there will be a slightly different manner of play and stronger players at the tables. Just do not forget about the correct use of the existing bankroll.

Hate to sound arrogant, but I've made hundreds of thousands playing poker as my job. This question is ridiculous to any professional player.

Poker is amazing, if you win one big tournament, your life can change instantly, so it happens with poker players, so I think Daniel Negreanu understands this perfectly :)

Everyone loses money in poker :) The question is how much are you willing to lose in order to start winning

This is a good example of running bad. In poker your going to have swings from up, cashing in most every tournament, and downs, where you cant win no matter what you do. You want to have a big cash to out way your loses. In tournaments you can win one that will cover your next 100 or more depending on buy-in and amount of players in it. In cash games, you will have swings like you do in tournaments but can be more worse since in cash game you can go bust in first hand. I played live at new Orleans casino in Vegas 1/2 nl bring in was $300. This guy set down and rebought five times in ten minutes. He was drinking heavy and talking a lot playing every hand aggressively. It was nuts, I was thinking man he needs help, I felt bad for him cause when he solbers up and relies he lost two grand in thirty minutes ,what`s he going to do. I don't really know how deep his pockets where but he was throwing around cash like it was water.

Of course, but for this you need to try. Gone are the days when you could not strain to earn a living in poker, "exploiting" the VIP program in the room. Now the winner is the one who knows how to adapt better and faster.

Yes, you can win money playing poker over time, but you can also lose that same money just as quickly in poker. It's a game of ups and downs and it isn't always going to play out the way you want it to, professional or not.

even i know of variance and to a player with 2,8mil buy in as daniel had last year 80 is not a lot to lose i think he it is normal to lose a year or two in between and even more so in turnaments but well what do i know i just started my journey to become a winning player at 2$NL haha

Not necessarily to earn. The main thing is not to lose much))

The most important thing here to consider is playing within your bankroll. Play smart and you will win over time...
