Failure to understand the differences between sports and gambling results in the banning of poker in some countries. Sport is playing a tournament where you pay an entry fee, like in many other disciplines, but playing for money is pure gambling. In Poland, due to the government's misunderstanding, poker was included in the Gambling Act, but you can organize a tournament. Only there is idiocy in this act that causes double or literally triple taxation, because 1. the organizer pays tax on income as a company, 2. the organizer is obliged to pay 25% tax on the tournament pool, 3. winnings/each winner pays 25% tax on winning. For this reason, organizing tournaments in Poland is unprofitable. But I can play normally because due to the defects of the law they have no right to collect more than 10% tax on winnings, and since the servers are located abroad, the fact that I play on them is not subject to Polish law. And such legal crap is still relevant despite lobbying to regulate it in a civilized way.

Some places are considered "hidden gambling in the form of Poker" because businesses operate outside the law.

Good thing mine isn't one of them lol.

Seriously now, unfortunately there are people with a gambling addiction, who ruin their lives on cards, but I believe that this would not be the correct path.
Companies could find a way to raise awareness among these people, but looking at the profitable side, it would be unfeasible, even though it would be absurdly immoral.

We can only hope that poker doesn't die in the world.

I understand the bans in some countries where this is related to religion, but as a rule, many bans are a way to profit from corruption

Why ban? Let each person decide for himself whether to play or not.

Governments don't care about right and wrong. They don't care if poker is skill or gambling.
The only thing governments care about is keeping and protecting their POWER and totalitarian control over their citizens and the entire world!!
There could be all kinds of reasons behind why poker is allowed in some countries and not in others. Maybe the casinos didnt bribe them politicians with enough money. Or maybe they have some control scheme that poker sites get in the way of.

Maybe you should just ban yourself from playing 50 useless public freerolls every day. Maybe consider practising some bankroll management the next time you hit a big score (instead of what? withdraw every cent and then play thousands of freerolls again while posting about it being rigged)

The only case when poker and other gambling is banned by laws and the state is when the state thinks that they are not being given enough, too little "kickback". In reality, no one ever thinks about the dangers of gambling.

A stupid question, to be honest, for those who play poker and would like to continue playing...

I don't believe banning poker by law would be reasonable or effective.
Poker at its heart is a game of skill enjoyed recreationally by millions of players, whether casually around a table or professionally at tournaments. For most participants, poker promotes positive social interaction and strategy development without causing individual harm;)

poker does not need to be prohibited by law because it's a game like other games who wants to play, let anyone who does not want to play play does not play, it's logical so poker is not harmful. If anything, you should ban this casino because you can't win there almost poker people play to win money and change their fate for the better by making a lot of money on poker sites and living a rich life

I think it's pointless to ban poker. It will be the same as when Prohibition was introduced in the US, people didn't start drinking less alcohol, but more, and the number of underground beer and whiskey breweries increased. It will be the same with poker, people will start creating illegal underground clubs and so on. What really needs to be banned or severely restricted are casino games, online slots, sports betting and other gambling, because I think people lose much more money here than in poker. I personally know several people who have ruined their lives because of this.

No, of course, I think it is inappropriate to ban poker in any country. I consider the age of the player to be the only correct restrictions, it seems to me that the minimum age of the player should be 20 years old.

Why not 18? A 20 year old is by no means any more mature than a 18 year old.

Mostly the legal age is either 18 or 21.

I don't think anyone here would like to see it outlawed.
Gambling can be a very dangerous game.
When legal it can be regulated to a much more manageable degree. Gambling can done responsibly if the stigma isn't there or classed as a taboo topic. Making it a little healthier.
Yes poker is gambling. Risking money to make money is gambling.
It is not a sport, people who take part are not athletes.
It is a game of patience and skill, but it is still just a game and it can be a dangerous one at that.
People like to compare poker to chess but playing poker is closer to playing with stock. There is alot more risk.
It is not something everyone can or should do.
Gamble responsibly.
