Ok I read 100 bankroll and play 10 tournaments? You can bust the roll in two days. Winning players over the long term will bust through a 100.00 roll playing 10.00 games.

I don't like to be pessimistic but the grind on 100.00 roll is more likely 2.20 and below. 2.20 is definitely a shot. Maybe I am a nit to bankroll.

To be successful at poker, be willing to humble yourself a bit and earn your way up is where you have success. The learning and development isn't for the faint of heart.

Without building foundation first, you could deposit 1K and hit the 11.00 tourneys and eventually you will end up with 0.47 in your account.

Now with that said, not trying to be pessimistic about it but I think that many players who claim they are successful really aren't.

It's the "grinders" that have earned up their ranks from micros is who would be successful.

I consider a guy who is in a 2/5 live game earning an hourly of a full time job over the course of a year would be successful. I don't really look at a lot of the high stake pros that sell off their action and earn for their backers as successful. I consider a 10nl professional multitasking grinding it up to consistent +5bb over 100 hands over a course of a year as successful.

The success is defined individually. I do say the common trade is discipline, work ethic, drive, and profit to define success.

Because not everyone has the brains. All can't win. One won - ten lost.

Bankroll management, patience and study mixed with the huge amount of hours to play enough volume to become good keep most of us on the recreational side of the game.

To be successful in poker, you have to oche for a long time to work on themselves and develop their skills .Mne seems that many who start to play poker, they think that it will be "the best player." They begin to envy to all who aspire to success, without having any talent

Very nice post my friend, you summed it very nicely and I can only agree with you in all points. With poker its mostly like with anything else. Only those who put 100% in it, full commitment and insane number of hours of playing and studying will be succesfull.

The success depends to a great extent on the luck.in vain invest time, learning, study, when you have no chance. A beginner can a great success if it has good luck. Does it?

define succesfull please ?

Success is from my point of view when you have money, you are healthy, you have a happy family, playing poker as a hobby (if you win e and better). But do not forget ,when you win somewhere, wasting elsewhere,is the law of the universe. The success is inversely proportional to the universe with the unsuccessful. At least that is my view. A good day.

You need to understand that in poker, as in any other activity, peaks achieve a very small percentage, but it does not prevent to play albeit in a small plus for fun, the main thing that it didn't affect your Finance options. You and your family should not suffer from this.

Lots of good answers, but....

I saw some good answers, but nobody said one of the glaring reasons why it's EXTREMELY difficult to win at poker. (Side note, It took me 15-16 years before I could consistently beat 2$/5$ NL. I'm not ashamed to admit that.)

Anyways, allow me to answer your question WITH a theoretical story.

You and your buddy have an argument about who is the better poker player. So, you two decide to play NL HD'EM, H/U, cash game, with a 10,000 buy in. You're going to play, 3-4 hours each day, everyday, over the next 6 months. You talk to the manager at the local casino, and they agree to broker this deal, given that you pay the standard rake. Well, after 6 months, you guys are BOTH down 5,000! And it turned out that the DEALER is actually the best player there! :icon_sant

Seriously though, like many things in life, the line between average and good, between good and great, is VERY VERY thin. And over time, to consistently win GOOD money, you have to be GREAT due to the rake. And, to be great, or a MASTER, at ANYTHING requires 10,000 hours of practice. (That's the typical amount of hours people associate with mastering something. I'm sure it applies to poker as well.)

Hope you'll 'scuse the pun, but that was MY TWO CENTS :D

What good to know the rules, but, nevertheless, play a different amount of money at the table, no matter online or live? Therefore, in addition to the rules of poker, it would be nice to know the psychology to be able to "read" your opponent.

If the aim/definition of successful is turning professional, very few make it because there are only a handful of people who take the risk to leave their jobs and pursue poker full time. It takes a certain kind of person to take that risk.

The main thing I think you need to do to be successful is commit a huge amount of time to learning, analysing and playing the game. Time is something a lot of us don't have!!

Poker to me is like investment in a business. Only 5% are successful.

Nice thread keep it up guys. Love reading opinions and thoughts of other players :)

GL at the tables everyone and GL w the bankroll management and i agree on the fact its in our own perception as to what makes a "sucessful poker player" yes there are certain goals but its all about why you play and what you want out of it imo.. with anything in life the term sucessful in my eyes will always be related to ones perception.

i'm not sure if i'm good or bad, but first i play poker to enjoy and then about money i could tell that i never lose money. Ok i'm not an amazing player, i play basically micro and frerolls but the trick to earn money is to have a good way to manage bankroll, i have a special rule to spend money in games and to withdraw.

to suceed in poker is a very difficult thing.. we as players have to focus alot on bank roll management aswell as keep our game the very best it can be.. i think many players dont suceed because they dont know how to control there bank roll management which is one of the most important factors in being sucessful in poker

the patience is the main thing!

Success in poker seems to me, depends on desire to develop constantly, and the most important is a patience. Who is able wait-will achieve bigger!

Because few players know how to play poker. Although ask anyone : "you Know how to play poker?". 99 percent will answer, "of Course."
