I think that the players in the game cache of knowledge about the game more than the tournament games. this is my opinion.

All players are excellent when they can play well, but only the difference in cash games from mtt tournaments is big, in the tournament you can sit 3-4-5 hours to spend time and not win, and in the cash game you can play 1 hour or 2 hours and win the normal money , in the tournament you need to make a lot of efforts to win a large number of chips and get into the prize zone and win, in the cash game you just play came to you card does not come the card does not play, for me all the players are the best in their own way, some play well in tournaments and others in cash games!

Both are different games. You can’t compare someone’s cash skills to another’s tournament skills. But you can look at their achievements overall to select the best players in general.

My instinct says that since its 2 different playing styles, thus there are pros and cons to each. Leaving different strengths along with weaknesses to both. Then after thinking about it for a min. I would say Cash players are probably better, and this is why...

almost everyone that gets into the game of poker now a days is cause of what they see on TV. Of course there are the few that were brought up in a home that were taught to play at the kitchen table, but for the majority it comes from watching tournaments on TV. Thus these people will start by playing SnGs, and MTTs. Thus the knowledge and understanding of the game is a lot less in Tournament play. Especially in ET, before all the "not so good" players still have chips....

That's just my opinion though, I have no real facts to back it up. lol

Hello.
As for me, the best players at the cash tables. In my opinion, cash games are much more complicated.

Ask yourself this? Who would have a better chance to win? A cash player in a tournament or a MTT player sitting at a cash table?

A cash game player would get destroyed in a tournament as Stack sizes and changing gears and ICM comes into play massively! and a cash game player would struggle if he never had knowledge with the stuff I mentioned!

These are completely different disciplines. Regular MTT players are more seasoned. It is difficult to determine which of them is stronger. Each player is good in his discipline.

Both

It is a matter of style; the real greats can slip streamlessly between the two different formats and crush either side.

Two completely different skillsets. I think some players are more wired for one than the other. I think cash games might be more mentally challenging but MTTs are more challenging to be successful at long term

Who has more knowledge and skill, cash players or tournament players?
Both formats are quite different. Betting sizes, ranges and other strategy varies quite a bit between cash and tournaments.

With no ante in cash, you are able to tighten up a bit more. With tournaments, you need to loosen your game as the blinds and ante gets much larger.

For my advice, I’d say that beginners should learn to play cash first, then move into tournaments. I’ve seen tournament players move into cash and they’ll value/ shove with pair/ two pair hands, often losing their stack.

There is also a fair bit of variance in tournaments...

TLDR; Overall, I think cash players are more ‘skilled’ but both formats require a lot of skill.

It has really become two specialized areas. In the olden days everyone was a limit cash game player and only played in tournaments occasionally. Now you have such big payouts in tournaments. I personally do a lot better in tournaments and lose at cash. I don't really know why. I always seem to me on the wrong end of two pairs and boats in cash games.

Cash or MTT?

I think this is a difficult question to answer, as the skill sets are different. A tournament player may be better playing short stacked and pre-flop, while a cash game player may have better post-flop play.

Goal: be strong at both? Or is it better to focus on one?

deep cash players who mastered post flop play are clearly the best players overall as poker player you can see that , however nowadays the players that play those ShR tournaments they are pretty good too

2 Games

Good question and topic. Personally, I feel my strategy as far as card play is concerned is about the same. In playing double ups, etc, I do have to loosen my choices some, though. Good luck!

Good cash game players have a better understanding of deep stacked play and post flop maneuverability.Good tournament players should know the above, but also short stack strategy, passing up spots for survival and ICM.

Cash players are always stronger than tournament players. First of all postflop. With this you can not argue. But tournament players have their advantages. This is an excerpt, move more strategically around the tournament, feel the dynamics at the table better. But in any case, any cash player will be able to profitably play in the tournament. But not every tournament player will be successful at the cash table.

My view:

Cash is going on a hunt. One needs most skill, because deep stack needs number crunching and nerves. Quickest way to lose money, so sharks will come and they'll fight.
Too many nits for many recreational players.

MTT is a competition, also fun and luring hopes of big cashes for recreational player.

SNG is sports, quickie, bar fight. Anyone can join, it goes fast'n dirty and there you have it, your fix.

I can say with confidence that cash players are very weak in tournaments and vice versa!

im going to say cash game players tend to be a little better than str8 tournament players. tournaments tend to be easier to make money in because it doesn't matter if you bust just when you bust. cash games if you bust you get nothing
