This is a discussion on What would you do if you won a large sum of money in a tournament? within the online poker forums, in the General Poker section; Let's imagine that you have won a large sum of money in a tournament. What are your next steps?
First of all, I will help my son financially. Since he always does not have enough money to pay for utilities. I'll put the rest in the bank at interest for the future. We have from 2 to 4% for foreign currency.
I will travel abroad. I'd always like to discover the world, learn more about other cultures and enjoy nature.

Buy my own home and new PC, payoff the debts, deposit money to my poker accounts (rooms) where I play the most of time, $100 each, that's enough to play the way I used to before the big win. Maybe anything else.
But I know what I would NOT do. Try higher stakes or tourneys to double this money.
I wouldn't tell anyone. It is a long road with many difficulties, it would be my personal achievement, it is what I prepare myself for every day, it would be to reaffirm that this is the best decision I could have made.
If it was a huge amount, the first thing i would buy would be a new fishing boat. The one i have is ok,but a new one would be alot better. Then i would head to vegas for about a month vacation.Since im retired i have the time to do it.
I will use some of it for better home, some for other hobbies, some for travel, some for financial reserve in future and some to continue playing poker. I am sure though that this will not happen to me at lest in near future.
If we are talking about a large enough amount of money, the first thing I would do would be to move somewhere by the sea. I would buy a house on the beach, and spend the rest of my life happy looking at the sea, and listening to the sea waves.
define large. Either way keep playing poker, buy ins & number of games would depend on how much I won. For sure set half or more aside for retirement, which I am already doing. Would be nice to play knowing you do not have to, doing it just for the pleasure.
