I think the most important is to play different, so you confuse your opponent, and read other players.

A good poker player possesses a combination of characteristics and skills that contribute to their success at the table. Here are some of the most important traits and abilities:

  1. Patience: Patience is crucial in poker. Good players understand that the game is a marathon, not a sprint. They wait for favorable opportunities, exercise discipline in folding weak hands, and avoid impulsive decisions based on short-term results.
  2. Emotional Control: Poker is an emotional rollercoaster, and maintaining emotional control is essential. Good players can manage their emotions, avoid tilt (emotional reactions to losses), and make rational decisions even under pressure or during challenging situations.
  3. Analytical Mind: A strong analytical mind is an asset in poker. Good players can analyze complex situations, assess probabilities, and make strategic decisions based on available information. They are adept at calculating odds, assessing risk versus reward, and adapting their strategies accordingly.
  4. Observation and Perception: The ability to observe and analyze opponents is critical in poker. Good players pay close attention to the actions, betting patterns, and behaviors of their opponents to gain insight into their likely holdings and overall playing style. They use this information to make more informed decisions and exploit weaknesses.
  5. Adaptability: Successful poker players are adaptable and can adjust their strategies to different situations and opponents. They recognize that the game is dynamic, and what works against one player may not work against another. They can shift gears, change their playing style, and exploit changing circumstances.
  6. Bankroll Management: Good players understand the importance of bankroll management. They allocate their funds wisely, set limits on losses, and avoid taking unnecessary risks that could lead to financial ruin. They have a long-term perspective and protect their bankroll to ensure their longevity in the game.
  7. Discipline: Discipline is a crucial characteristic of a good poker player. They have the discipline to stick to their strategies, make rational decisions based on logic rather than emotions, and follow proper bankroll management guidelines. They avoid impulsive actions and know when to fold weak hands, even if it means walking away from a potentially exciting pot.
  8. Continuous Learning: Good players have a thirst for knowledge and continuously seek to improve their skills. They study poker theory, read books, watch training videos, and discuss hands with fellow players to expand their understanding of the game. They recognize that poker is constantly evolving, and staying ahead requires ongoing learning and adaptation.
  9. Psychological Insight: Poker is a psychological game, and good players possess insight into human behavior and motivations. They understand the impact of psychology on decision-making, can read opponents for tells, and leverage their understanding of psychology to manipulate their opponents' actions.
These characteristics and skills are not developed overnight but through practice, experience, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Developing and honing these qualities can significantly enhance a player's performance and overall success in the game of poker.

Patience is no 1. Lucky is no 2. For MTT the ability to negotiate through the levels. You have to have the cards though, often you will have no chance.

Controlling emotions is obviously very important in poker, but equally important are the patience and discipline of the player. In my opinion, patience and discipline are the two foundations on which everything rests.

For me a player needs to play aggressively and have no fear of losing, but also when losing, he need to have a control of his emotions. Discipline to always follow a bankroll management is very important.

I think patience and discipline are the most important. If the player is disciplined and patient, then by default he will be calm and prudent.

I agree with you, managing our emotions is one of the basic skills a good poker player should have. Such characteristics as patience, concentration, perseverance, I would also add here. A good poker player must be a universal person, he must be able to adapt to any table and to any opponents, he must have a good feel for the game and understand what is happening at the poker table. Also, this person must understand in which situations it is necessary to call other people's raises, and in which it is unnecessary, and for this he needs to know theoretical knowledge about poker. Poker is a science in which there are many different subtleties and nuances.

In my opinion a poker player must have analytical skills, emotional control and reading opponents to make strategic decisions based on the cards and above all a lot of patience.

Patience, above all else. After that: mental fortitude to handle not only bad beats but not get blinded by thr winners rush, and finally the ability to keep a degree of detachment. Don't get emotionally invested in a hand, outcome, session or against another player at the table.
Whether it's cash or tourney, you're there to win money, not stroke your ego

Definitely got to be patience. You have got to be relaxed and expect to be in for a long game.
