It's not a matter of liking the game or not. It's the lack of understanding the different aspects of the game. Or more so the lack of interest in it.

But when posing the OP's original question to my wife and daughter, I got a little different response.

"You're not that good. But, at least it gets you out of the house on Friday nights."

some of my friends also know but mostly they thinks its only gambling

At the start they were a bit worried about money (only due to what we see on tv and the huge buy-ins), but I showed them the micro stakes and all was good. I started with a min deposit roll and have never spent a cent extra since.

With them seeing me win tourneys and have a great time even when I lose, all the while, progressing really well and not getting stale ... they are fine with it cause they know they will end up with some sort of goodies out of it.

My wife does not like that I tie up the computer for many hours at a time. My son is OK with it because he understands the competitive nature of it.

My mother keeps saying that i'm gambling since I do host some mini home games at my place though . however our home games tend to maximize the thinking play instead of gambling.

Only a few family members know (it's not really something they're into or would care about) but only one that knows thinks it's "a waste of money and a problem."

My mother thinks I only play online (and knows I've gotten some top 3 in a few tournaments, one for $1400) and probably wouldn't approve if she knew I play in my local casino.

Most of my friends know, some of my professors and supervisors know and most are pretty intrigued by it and want to learn more about what it's like.

I live with my SO and she supports me 100% on it. Recently since I'm still a full time grad student and income has been scarce in my other work, I've been trying to put a little more time in live I think she's afraid I'll end up living at the poker room! But it's about finding a balance.

I think too once people see you come back with cold hard cash a few times (whether you sucked out lucky or not) they start to understand real quick. But like all of you I love the game too, the money is just silver lining when it's made.

People who don't get it or think it's "just gambooling and an addiction" don't understand. I've long ago made peace with the fact that I'm taking other people's money and they sometimes take mine. As I get better at the game and start to see a little fruits of my hard work, study, and time at the tables, I'm fine with it if people think it's "not legit."

My family have nothing against poker has, I don't give a reason. The money from the family budget I spend on poker. and not immersed in the game, and when I win the money wife is happy, because we immediately go to the store ;-)

Everyone in my family is fine with poker , I with my sister play holdem, my mother play with us razz , other relatives sometimes we play occasionally . It's a game and we enjoy it , with or without prize
