Hello. Even if they are famous, I think it is normal that they feel passion for Poker or other sports or activities that require dedication, strategy, mental or physical resistance (Swimming, Chess, Golf, etc)
I think they are poker amateurs, but they are famous and can attract a lot of audience, which is very good for the rooms! I consider it advertising and getting people to play poker, but I have nothing against it, because everything is driven by advertising! Good luck to everyone at the tables!
Honestly, it doesn't matter to me. Professionals, celebrities, or anyone else doesn't interest me much. I'm focused on my game and my results, and everything else is not important to me.
Sometimes it is only a gimmick to attract people to the game. Anybody that wants to play is fine by me, if I like the person I will watch them play. A table of nonpoker playing celebrities, playing for the first time would be fun to watch. They each get one week of training by the pro of there choice. All prize money donated to there charity of choice. Winner gets a trophy 🏆 and bragging rights. One game per month for nine months and in Nov all nine winners play for a bigger trophy.
As a player, I see celebrities just as more people sitting at the table.
As a Poker lover, I see Poker celebrities as a great way to give visibility to the game.
Just like everybody else, they are entitled to play the game as they please. It would be bad business, if poker sites or casinos never took advantage of their names to promote their brands.
As they would say in my country, “for money, the monkey dances”. it is above all a marketing strategy, and basically it would be the taste for poker. Of all the ones I have seen play the best, Ronaldo is the phenomenon.
I like it as IMO celebrities can bring a lot of new players at the tables- this is a good marketing move(business perspective) and it's also good for the poker community - new members are always welcome and it's our responsibility to make many new players stay for a long time...
I would not play a tournament or join a poker room because of a soccer celebrity, but to be honest I'm not a fan of any of these players. But since poker rooms are investing in athletes, I guess they bring new players to the room.
They are just poker room poster boys, they are there playing without losing anything and still earning a lot to call others to play, Neymar falls falls Jr , keep playing poker because football is gone, alias he never played. Good luck to everyone at the tables.
