Yeah I voted down all the stupid legalize pot things, there were like 6 of em! I couldn't down-vote the kids-with-cancer one!

you realize that legalizing pot in any country would do wonders for their economy:

1. Tourism
2. Employment
3. Textile production
4. Lowering of taxes on gasoline (taxes would come from a whole new revenue source)
5. You would knock the bottom out of the black market and minimize crime
6. paper pulp made from hemp plant yeilds more per hectare than trees and is easier to replace.

the list is endless.

8. one less thing to look for in drug tests

But seriously I'm curious why you're against the legalization of marijuana. I hope since that's the case that you're not 'ok' with alcohol being legal?

I completely agree with ya there. I just don't understand why a country that could stand to make that much money from legalizing it not?

But to not rant, voted for poker. Cool site btw

Cool site, thanks for the link!

Voted.

And agree with the marijuana thing. I don't smoke it, but ffs it's not worse than alcohol.

Exactly. Not only are they are they missing out on making money from it, but they're actually spending money in the failure known as the 'war on drugs'.

Which is why this is crucial. We already think (hope) he's on our side here, but he has other things he has as a higher priority. We need to let him know that we do care about it and hopefully he can make it a priority. Does anyone expect him to drop any economic stimulus planning to deal with poker? Of course not. But we want him to realize we do care and to fit it into the agenda somewhere.

The President's biggest concern is the economy. Bailouts and tax refunds are part of the economic plan for Obama but the money has to come from somewhere. Legalizing online games of skill gives an immediate revenue stream to draw from.

Who's to say that the US Gvt doesnt outline something like:

US online poker Gaming License Application - $25million
Yearly Online License Fee - $5 million
Tax 1% of all online player withdrawls

Now lets say you can apply that to 5 online poker sites. You're looking at a ton of potential money here. The negative would certainly be increased rake from the sites but I am hoping that lower rake becomes a competitive selling point, but I am getting ahead of myself. Anyways, online poker DOES have to do with what the Obama team immediately has to solve, it's a possible major contributor to funds needed to help the economy.

I assume you mean this will be additional to the players normal income tax on winnings??

heh ... my quote there is an example of something I could see happening that seems reasonable, it's not thought through for legislative purposes ... but to get to your question yes it could be a flat transaction tax. Players will have to report gambling winnings/losses as they normally do and lump it with their other transactions.

It was at #2, then the train and pot fans voted us down and them up. Just gotta keep getting friends/family to vote. As long as we're top 10 it'd be good.

Sho enough. doesn't help that the people making those decisions are the same ones that were fed all of that bs about "14-100 marijuana users go criminally insane"

Anyone ever youtube that crazy ish, some propaganda video from what looks to be the 50's. It's no wonder marijuana gets a bad name with crap like that

Bottom line, if its good enough to be used as TREATMENT, how can it be illegal?

Stop hijacking the thread and give your "who cares about their issue" and pro "vote for our issue" propaganda in this thread please ;)

Voted thanks for bringing this to attention. Thanks to these forums we will make progress. As to the last post, Obama has a lot to do, but not only would this help, I believe it's something he has thought about and will change.

To the: He has other things to worry about... Yes, but he will have at least 4 years to adress all the issues he can. Why not try to make sure the ones you have an intrest in are mixed in there somewhere.

About the taxable income part. There arent any US based sites at the moment either, correct? It seems to me that if this is amended they will be able to tax US based sites as well as the players winnings. This means they gain revenue from your loseings as well.
Thats exactly why alot of states have allowed the building of casinos in the last few years. It isnt soley from the taxes they gain from the players, but the taxes the casino pays as well.
The goverment becomes The House.
