Sure you can play too much. Your will get tired and your concentration will go down, making you make bad decisions. You should figure out for yourself where your limit is.

If i play a lot over several days I get tired of playing poker and my concentration in making correct decisions decreases gradually. You cannot keep your mind sharp for such extended time periods. Eventually I get sick of playing the game for a few days. I find that if I play little less every day my concentration is more sharp throughout the session and I come back everyday with more motive to play.

Of course there is :) I experienced it . There is a time when i played poker for 16 hours a day , and other 8 hours what i do ? I sleep but even in sleep there are cards in my dreams , You knowthats soo bad to even think abt it now . Then i changed a bit :) And started meditation , styed calm , not to play excess :)

Now i good :) Dont play too much , its not good for health & mind
Don't knock dreaming about cards!

It's the only time I get any decent hands.:)

A good trick is to wait until you start dreaming about getting good cards, then play when you wake up. Your "luck" is better that way (really, what it means is your mind is set up to play well :)

I think so, I start making stupid mistakes and calls when i get tired. I played at casino last night after only 3 hours of sleep. I had a K, 9 of spades and the flop was A, 4, 5 of spades fell. I had a K high flush. I knew if I started betting everyone would fold, so i checked all the way down the turn and river. Hoping someone else hit a smaller flush or something. Nope. so i ended up only winning the small and big blind of $3 bucks. off of a K flush ! tired

Of course you can play too much poker, your concentration is not the same when you play 2 hours or 12 hours.
You must find what is too much for you.
Sometime when i just start to play i need time to find my game i think 7 or 8 hours is the maximum.

Yeah there is such a thing and you can easily recognise it. If everything you think about is poker and you spend only a few moments to eat and drink ( or even eat while playing) you must know that the poker is too much for you :D

in my case poker is a distraction, the times I have not really defined only do when I have desire and pleasure!

if you are playing the game right it takes a lot of mental power which is hard to sustain for more than 4 or 5 hours to play beyond that is imo is playing less than your best game and in the big picture a drain on the bankroll.

Amen brother, 4 or 5 hours about my max as well. Some of em can play longer. Phil Lak did what like 100 hours straight or something crazy like that.

If you are tired and playing your "C" game but still winning, then it's +EV.

I usually play much lower stakes if I'm really tired, takes the pressure off.

Yes. If you play too much poker you will think only about poker. It's like an addiction. You life must be in balance , you should alternate your activities.

great post from someone way better then most (hokiegreg) found the 2p2 archive on this: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/1...ing-its-marathon-not-sprint-pooh-bah-1078795/

this is really worth a read if you havent seen this before ( i think this is 2ish years old but very good insight)

he breaks down what his schedule is and gives the idea of on days and off days when you play poker a lot ( or play for a living) and focuses some days on study and plans for that.

Wish i saw this when i first started i would blindly play when i had time regardless of how tired i was and it really cost me a lot in roi and slowed my learning a ton

To much poker and you can completely end up auto piloting. When your completely stressing out about poker and every hand your getting irritated it is time to take a break.

i hear what your saying but to some extent unless your playing for a living idk why you would ever get so bothered by poker it is just a stupid freaking game anyways i have never understood why it drives people crazy/ why run outs makes people rage.

I see it all the time thou! it is so funny when your on skype with other buddies playing and you hear "f**k stupid POS why did they play the hand that way!!??" or the classic "yes i hit,.. NNOOOO!!" when he re sucks out

I think if you focus first and for most on process and what you actually can control aka:

*being rested
*studying your play
*cutting down on distractions
*come in with a calm clear head
*really try and be somewhat creative and be willing to try things to see if you can make them work
*don't care about being a Xnl player, like so what your playing 10nl and you were playing 50nl last week, be flexible it shouldnt matter what the buyin is

following this it really should be hard to let things bother you

I am in the same league as many others have said. I definitely play better when I'm "fresh", but sometimes you can over-think a situation when you are too dialed in and being tired and just running on instinct can be a good thing.

I think that there´s only such thing as too much poker when you are start losing and that´s the right time so stop and comeback more focus. Don´t be addicted to it. There´s a life beyond a computer game. Don´t waste it or you will get to 40, with no money from poker and with no life experience (basically i mean girls lol). Play it for fun, money will come naturally.

Absolutely. The same goes for everything. Unless you are a pro who's actual livelihood depends on the amount you play (very small percentage of people) it should probably be done in moderation.

There is a time to play and time not to play. Your body and senses should let you know if you allow it. Bad beats in a row, sleepy, not full concentration, bad decisions are some of the telltale signs. Beware and listen to your body and senses.
