I'm pretty sure no one here really thinks that this guy can give someone else's kids cancer just by wishing it...... but thanks for confirming that.. you know, just in case someone here had that suspicion, and was actually worried.
But you do realize that the way people have been responding, its an obvious thought that should be thrown out there.

Your response to the remarks is the only thing that gives such remarks any validity.

Just because someone wishes something (and this is assuming he actually wants your children to have cancer.) doesn't mean it will happen.

The whole idea that this person, whom has no clue who you are, if you even have kids, what country you live in, HAS ANY SAY over what happens in your world is just silly, border-line paranioa.

Just let it go, infact, that this guy even got such a rise out of you means he won. This is exactly what he wanted, you to spend all god damn day thinking about a 2 second typing session, probably he has forgotten all about it by now.
Oh, it wasn't even directed at me. I never said a word to him. I just reported the abuse to Full Tilt. Still, you'd have to be a mannequin not to get a least a bit riled by this.

Had I lost the hand I would be pissed. But the fact that he has no money is good enough for me.

His anger is all the punishment for him I want. I know the feeling and the fact you are so angry and nothing to do about it is what hurts the most.

That's why he lashes out so, so he can inflict the pain he is feeling. To respond to it is to give him what he wants.

Banning his account may hurt him, if they only stop his chat thing for a while that will only make him happy. It will affirm the knoweldge that someone was effected.

The fact you did not respond I commend, it did not relieve him of his anguish.

+1 on everything that marginal said.

I don't chat that often, and lately I have turned that chat off all together, ( less entertaining, but less distracting) If I had seen that, I would have egged him on even more, cause I used to have a bad mouth like that, but now I just think it's funny when idiots like that go off. When I can, I do egg them on and watch them crash and burn.

What he said was stupid, but if what a nameless, faceless meathead says hurts somebody's feelings, maybe that person should find something else to do.

Have to get my words right here.

If chat isn't aimed at me. I let it go but if it is, then I guilt factor him. Maybe saying its to late, already happened etc.

I know thats wrong as well but most players vent then calm down and the guilt kicks in.

its neither for enlightenment or entertainment

there are some times when a guy's chat will give you some valuable information about how he thinks/plays/etc, which you can utilize to your benefit against this player. this is not always obvious via HUD or whatever and can be quite useful

I play with the Avatars! I'm the Plant and damn proud of it!

I like the avatars, they have become kinda a staple of my FTP experience.

I wonder if having those things really effect my play?

And to anyone whom hasn't had the pleasure of a nice chat or entertaining dialogue, has not played at my table.

I love the chat, I like asking people in other countries hows the weather or what they had for dinner.

How often do YOU get to talk to someone from brazil, Spain, germany, and the US all at the same time?

I mean sure poker is going on, but there is a whole other world out there that they are experiencing and can share with me.

^ this.

I didn't bat an eyelid reading OP and I can say with confidence it wouldn't have bothered me if it was someone saying it to me in the course of a game - TBH I thought it was actually pretty tame given thread title. If it really does bother you turn the chat off. Or at least turn observer chat off, that way you won't have to read things people write after they get knocked out.

I don't really care what someone says in chat. I keep it on because occasionally it gives me some useful information, like when there are two people at the table who know each other.

If someone starts spouting insults, my standard response is: "Don't hate the player, hate the game". It seems to either shut them up or tilt them more. Either way, I'm done responding to them after that and they can bang on their keyboard all they want. The less attention they're paying to the cards, the better I like it.

Unfortunately you HAVE to deal with those kind of people now and then. Good thing is that you can always ignore them... nothing worse than a sore loser.

Poker can make people mad.

Sometimes knowing this can be an edge.

whenever something like this happens- and i'm prone to ire myself, though i try not to be ad hominem- i recall DFW's 'This is Water' speech. i try to justify the offender through my own imagination; sometimes it can get kind of strangely devious though if one begins to imagine all the horrid things which made them act this way, as if simply imagining it wishes it upon them as a fact, but i try to ignore this dour aspect and try for the empathy.

I see this kind of stuff at least once or twice a week -more often at FT than PS.

I just ignore them - if everyone would they would be really disappointed.
