There is a strategy, and not just one. Luck in gambling cannot be unimportant. No one will offer you a magic pill. You need to learn how to work on the game if you want to make money playing poker, it's a long and thorny path with ups and downs. In one day you will not learn how to play, at best 3 months, the amount of information that you need to learn and learn how to use correctly is huge.
At the moment, there is a lot of information in the public domain, the books are mostly outdated, you can only learn the basics from them.

I myself make about 20% of my salary from poker (I am a full-time accountant).

My goal is to someday make more from poker than I do from my job. Perhaps then I could call myself a pro! 😂😂😂

For me my job actually allows me the ability to play while I work if I wanted, I’m lucky in this sense so I just play to supplement my income. I have worked out what I’d need in order to go poker full time but I’m in no rush to get there. I really enjoy my job

Luck plays an important role, but poker can really be a source of income. Patient and disciplined players have a chance to become successful and receive regular income from the game.

Pursuing poker professionally is very demanding. Luck is another way to describe variance. One needs discipline and good bankroll management skills to survive poker.

For me it`s just a hobby and I don`t think it will change. You need to be lucky and spend a solid amount of money on tickets without confidence in getting to the itm.

Poker is a hobby for me. I'm playing for fun. But I'm sure it's possible to make money playing poker. You just need to understand that, based on mathematics, only a few players can win big money. The rest will win small or lose.

While we all seem to agree, luck does play a SMALL part from time to time, it most certainly does NOT "play the main role". Discipline, bankroll management, amongst many other things are far more important. The thing is not to get carried away with fancy imaginings of how you are going to crack it and make loads of money. Just be content with small winnings....slow but steady...while you build your bankroll. Success to you my friend !!!

No, definitely is not my main source of income. I don't have any goal of be a professional poker player, I think it's a very stressful job. But if you want to be one, you will need to have a lot of patience, discipline and perseverance.

A lot of tournament play is down to having the cards or you could say “luck”. I have won many tournaments and you have to have the rub of the green. Won 3 tournaments in one day, a fair bit of luck, but the skill is not to get yourself busted too early stupidly. There is a rhythm to going deep in MTTs.

I have an acquaintance who earns a living and the fundamental word is discipline by controlling his bank. From there, luck has another slice, but discipline in taking care of your bank is, in my opinion, the key to being professional
