I say poker is mostly about luck, u gotta be luckyto even get a decent hand, i say its: Luck=80%
Skill=20% LOL.

I used to think luck was a higher %, but I have learned that skill is the higher %. I am glad when the luck comes my way though. Chip and a Chair baby! X

Being a good poker player gives you an edge over other weaker opponents.
Like a casino were the house always wins so is a solid player, the difference is that you are only 1 person ( not an entire casino whit a lot of employs) and have to put in a lot of volume playing poker so that in the end u can make profit

Hard to estimate by percentage, but I'm pretty close to the original poster at 80% luck & 20% skill, at least for each tourney.;)

There must be a PhD student somewhere that could design a study to answer this question. But i will play in any game that has a group of players that belive in luck over knowledge. They are commonly called fish.

skill vs luck?

Dude, and how about that yesterday I lost twice with AA vs very weak hands
both allin preflop with my opponent (0.25/50 for a 50$)
Last week I had similar experience - Lost 3 times with KK (allin preflop)
- 2 times on a cashtable, and once in a freezout.

So, don't tell me it's about 15% luck.
I can tell the luck is about 60% according to my experience in poker.

Ye man this is happening to everyone loosing with AA.. But maybe you should play abit cooler and dont go all in prefloop, wait to the flop. But i think that online poker is more luck then poker irl because its very hard to read players online then IRL. But ofcourse its more skill then luck in poker. I'dont think that for exampel Daniel negranu is a poker pro because of his luck. Skill is more important then luck to be a good player. I would say 90%skill 10%luck atleast in the longrun:)
Take care

Great stuff,... interesting article by Annie there,.. and Howard's input, the 'thinking machine' of poker........
This is about 'poker', right? What about 'online poker',.. where ya take into consideration the 'donk factor',.. ya know,.. the myriad of "Come on Nine!!" types (Fulltilt tv commercial, with Chris Ferguson losin' to the donk hopin for a '9').

There is just as much of a donk factor in live poker.
