As luck is involved i know ,but i must say that even with a big stack of chips in the final table the amateur can never beat a skillful pro, other gambling platforms like slots and roulette is completely gambling because no skill involved
The name 'gambling' itself involves luck hunting. As poker is not only gambling, would say is not a gambling game, but a game with gambling. Like a villain at utg, betting 32o.

Poker is a skill game that requires ability. There’s is a luck factor but poker predominantly is won by using one’s skill and knowledge. In the long run the most skilled players will be successful in poker, this eliminates the classification of gambling.

Tournament poker is not unlike any other tournament game; chess, scrabble, bridge. There is luck involved, but one pays an entry fee and the spoils to the winners. 2/5 at a casino is gambling.

Interesting discussion.

Here in the UK poker, like all card games, is deemed a game of chance. This is fantastic for poker players here because in the UK you don't pay tax on anything earnt through what HMRC regards as gambling.

It always makes me smile when I say to people I play poker and get the response that ooooo gambling is immoral, wrong and should be banned. I then ask if they have stocks and shares in a portfolio. Most answer yes. I then point out that those stocks and shares are traded on the stock exchange where the brokers basically gamble on the share price either rising or falling. I then ask if that should also be banned and if not why as there is no real difference, just a moral ambiguity at play.

The other thing that makes me smile is that after being preached to I ask if they would like to play a few hands with me. I always get the answer no. Their reason for not playing me, (totally laughable given they thing it is all chance and luck) is that I would beat them because I have been playing for so long.

You can literally see the tumble weed blowing down the street when I point out if it's nothing more than luck it doesn't matter how long I've been playing compared to them. Using their argument I tell them they should have just as much chance of winning as I do lol

Without a doubt, skill is very important, but the factor of luck always remains relevant. Therefore, I believe that 25% of poker remains a gamble.
