I believe it's a passion until you let it control your life. Then it switches to an addiction. Simple as that.

Poker addicts

How often do you think about poker? Like do you eat, sleep, shit poker? I play about 1-2 hrs a day and sometimes I just find myself spacing out about poker when I'm not doing anything cooking up strategy, think about what I shouldn't have done in a game or what I should do more etc. I'm curious to know how or when the real poker players zone out the poker thoughts😊😊

When I first started playing poker online, I played about 12 hours a day. I would be so tired, and still all I talked about was poker. and could hardly wait until I could play more. I may have even dreamed about poker. That was 12 years ago, and up until about a year ago, I continued to do that, and the more I played, the more I lost. For the past year I have found myself cutting back on my playing. Up until last night I just stopped playing for 2 days. Now days I don't play but 4 or 5 hours a day, but still that's not every day. Could be 1 or 2 hours.

passion gratified by the fact you play, and maybe not waste so much money. addiction takes you to want to play a lot and want to win and I think that takes you into bankruptcy.

I have a desire to win and excel but being committed to that goal I can find myself in a compulsive engagement so I find it both a passion and addiction.

That depends on the person. I honestly think that if you play to have fun, most of time it's passion, but , for example when you know that you have a really bad day and insist playing because you think you need to win and you can't stop it's an addiction.

Passion

Passion is the want and need to get the most out of what you love.

The love of the game started for me back in March 2006; i downloaded a cheap poker App and played on my old Razr phone. A buddy came to me and convinced me to try a home game; i went, and my very first hand i got a straight flush! It's been all downhill since then.
I've never been addicted to poker, but i'm certainly passionate about the game. In the beginning, i wanted to learn as much as i could, so i read just about every poker book out there. And I played and played and played. And played. Over time i also learned how to deal the game, since i wanted to know EVERYTHING about poker. That lead to a dealing career for several years, which evolved into a poker supervisor position.
I like to think that poker has made my life more exciting; i've learned so much from poker; mony management, psychology, the art of 'war of atrition', etc.
So yes, i'm passionate about the game, in all of its amazing glory.

For me if a lot is passionate about poker others take it only as a hobby, but it becomes an addiction poker when it affects you and those around you

The way I've been bleeding in live cash lately, I'm staring to wonder if a drug addiction would be less costly! :D

So long as the important things in life are not being neglected then it's a passion.
(If poker is the only important thing to you then your fine )

I think playing reckless and losing lots would be an addiction, playing a lot responsible would be passion. Check your deposits too see which category u fall into, and be honest to yourself. If u can't do that then it's definitely an addiction.

i believe passion is when you have a set discipline that you can stick to that proves profitable. if you have to deposit weekly to maintain a balance and to keep playing i think it is then an addiction.

It's easy. If you're making money playing poker, it's passion. This means spending more money on bills and self then poker. If you're spending your money trying to make more money but find yourself losing a lot of money, then it's an addiction and you should probably not be playing poker. I myself used to be a semi-pro, won some mid major tourney's. Went through a break up (my fiance ending it 10 weeks from the wedding) and it went the other way. I tried to use poker to make me feel better and since my mind wasn't right, lost a lot of money. That said, if you have a sound mind and you're not spending all your money on poker, you're good.

Now I only play freerolls online and use that money to play with. As for live poker games here at the Hollywood casino, I play with investor's funds. This way if I lose, it's not a loss to me. If you have a proven track record, people will vouch for you.
