For the US, I think down the road it will all be regulated by all major casinos having their own site. There is just too much money to be made for that not to happen.

There is a provision in the California laws that says that anyone can provide a game at any state licensed cardroom. So if I could cover the costs of doing so, I could go start a game at any cardroom. Works for tourneys. In theory it could work for ring. I could collect the rake, or tourney fees, rather than the house collecting those fees. In essence, I would be 'renting' the facilities. This is possibly how existing poker circuits get in, even something like Poker After Dark.

It has been a long time since I reviewed those laws, and I remember that provision and my reaction to reading that as it seemed to offer interesting possibilities.

If we only extrapolate that a little, it might be easy to provide an entrance to OLP games, via any local cardroom. So I might log in via my Bicycle Club ID, and play folks who logged in via a Chumash ID. We already know this model, it is years old for most 'networks', Merge being well established, and WPN also come to mind.

Now add a twist, the networks don't have to be the guiding force here. Either each individual B&M/OLP 'entity' or the State (via regulation) could offer games from ALL existing game suppliers. So again, I might log in via my Bicycle Club ID, and play one table from a Stars network feed, and multi-tabling, play another table from a different network, like Merge.

I think the game isn't in any sort of jeopardy, in terms of dying out or drying up.. I'm sure there is always going to be a market for it.. And because of this, there will always be providers of the game. Whether it's casinos, cardrooms, or online poker sites. I can see there being less interest from the public at some point down the line. But really don't see that affecting things in any way really.

This is all really interesting stuff! I couldn't imagine playing on for example, Bicycle, and playing a game from PS player pool and a different game from Merge's network/player pool.. I wonder how the cashouts would work? Seems like it might be a bit of a pain.
